My Kenmore washer model #7014502 began to squeal in spin and chewed up the belt.
Motor is new.
Any idea of repair needed?
Thank You

Just a guess.  Maybe the belt was squealing because the pump has seized up?

Definitely check the pump first.  The '66 Inglis 'presented' with a chewed-up belt as an initial symptom, but in my case, the transmission was shot!

Well, this has gone beyond my limited scope of diagnostic capabilities.  Maybe Gordon (Kenmoreguy64) will be able to provide some of his expert insight.

Sounds like either bad center post bearings or a lack of lubrication if they are still good. Basket drive clutches may be worn down so that you've got metal on metal. Hope that helps a little.

Squealing and chewing up the belt.

There is not much that will chew up a belt in a Belt Drive WP-KM washer other than a sized water pump, how fast did this belt get chewed up, what is getting hot, Motor pulley, clutch pulley ?, if the motor pulley has any rust on it it will chew up a belt pretty fast, you really have to look the machine over and it should be pretty easy to figure out what is causing the belt wear and noise.

Chewed up belt Kenmore

I've been looking at the washer again.
The pump turns, but most of the chewed up belt looks to be around the clutch.
I replaced the belt when I put on the new motor 2014.

One other thing when I turned the large fly wheel on the transmission nothing happened, pulled up on it and the cam bars will now move.
Thanks for the help.
Kent

Chewed up Kenmore belt 1970's

If all looks good might this be the transmission?
I'm in need of this washer.

if the pump and flywheel

And motor turn it still sounds like a basket drive issue too me. It sounds as if it may be what's seized up.

Basket Drive

Yeah, good question.  I have no idea what a basket drive is or how to get at it.

Something tells me that accessing it would involve a major tear-down.  You may want to retrace your steps on the easier items first, considering the washer was behaving OK before you installed the new motor.  Are you sure the specs for the new motor's drive mechanism are identical to the old one?

Access to the basket drive is a relatively major disassembly.  Must remove the agitator and inner basket then the transmission ... the basket drive/brake assembly sits atop the transmission.

Having NEVER fixed a wash machine, but yes having some car/plumbing repair background, my first ever rebuild was a complete teardown on a Kenmore. And that machine ain't leaking, and is still washing, 4 years later.

If you never try, you'll never know what you can do
