So I had a few Japanese friends round mine recently before they head off back to Japan for study leave, and other than they usual affair of chilling out, playing xbox, going out for dinner and so on, we got onto the subject about washing.
I asked them what washing in Japan is like and to my surprise it is a little different to what we are used to in Europe and the west, kind of, or at least is was. Unless you have bought a recent washing machine in Japan, they were mainly all cold water only, with no heating elements, which I find odd, and so did they. A lot of them have hot fill, but a surprising amount were just cold fill only. I think that was possibly more to do with the type of clothing the Japanese wear, usually wearing more delicate items such as silks and so on, which makes sense. However, these days, washing machines in Japan are like they are in the west, with companies like Hitachi and Toshiba selling them. I think toploaders are common in Japan. I stumbled across this video of a really nice looking Hitachi top loading washer dryer! It looks brilliant and it sings to you, and it seems so quiet! Makes a big difference after a suggested video was "Chinese washing machine from hell" a washing machine made by "Midea" and it was just awful, but considering around 80% of water in China is not suitable for human consumption because most of it is toxic, I wouldn't want to wash my clothes in China, nor in a Chinese washing machine :/ It is a shame we don't see more Japanese washing machines in the west. In Europe at least, we have Panasonic but they only do 2 or 3 models but they score very well by the likes of Which? magazine and seem very well made in typical Japanese fashion. |

Washing clothes in China... Yeah... Had that experience. All cold, 30 minute cycle, dried in fresh Shanghai smog... Clean is different for me :/ |

Hmm. My dad went there a few years ago, Chongqing or something like that, soon after coming from Nagasaki in Japan and he said the difference in the people, the country itself is startling. Not being funny and I don't mean to be rude but he portrayed China to be a bit of a dump :/ Judging by their commitment to quality and safety, its not somewhere I would want to go I am afraid .

when I watched the fist video thinking it was going to be a total mystery what was going on inside, then I scrolled down after the first video, and noticed the view of what was going on inside. What the hell is the dryer part doing? Just blowing? No tumbling at all? I guess it can't tumble, since it's a TL. I wonder what the dried clothes look like? I would not like having a washer that I couldn't possible see what's going on inside.
