Hi guys-
This oil leak is very slow. I wiped it away last week, and thought it was old news, but a week later on wash day I peeked under the hood and noticed same couple 'runs'. Are they coming from what's called the right angle drive? Horizontal shaft? Either way it's coming from the vicinity where the drive exits the skirt and goes up into the wringer post.

Is this something to be concerned about? I'm not up for a full rebuild yet. :-)

maytag wringer? isn't there a paper gasket in that spot that fails? im thinkin so or check to see if the bolts are loose

Yes! Wow. How could I forget that. It's a wringer. Model N2LP. I'm not sure if this is a common leak point or not. Tightening the bolts would be a great idea to try. Thanks.

Christopher is telling you to try the bolts first! Why would that not be a great idea? It could be as simple as they are loose.

Check on the top of the horizontal drive. There is a weep hole that vents out oil if the level in the power unit rises due to water leaking into it. It's common on old Maytags. The leaking oil travels along the top of the horizontal drive and then leaks down the left real leg of the washer. That's more likely the cause then a gasket.That part of the machine that sends power to the wringer unit is packed with grease, not oil.
