Still at work on it...the furnace room is a mess..got belts, pump, water level pressure switch and the water valve redone from John L last weekend and waiting for the epoxy to dry on re-attaching the nipple to the pump cover. Water valve experts, please let me know if the wires are hooked up the right way and which ones are the hot and cold hose attachments..(the service manual was vague). The new fill and drain hoses are ready to go and hopefully by this weekend it will be ready for the big test!..not looking forward to laying it on it's side to put the motor back in, but by taking the front and top panel off, it should make it a bit lighter...the 1960 dryer is ready for drying the first load that comes out of its new mate!

I guessed wrong the first time, too. I just left the top un-screwed and swapped the wires when I discovered my error. I fired it up with the "cold water wash" option selected (really, the only use for that setting is as a diagnostic mode ;-) ), and the door glass steamed up.
Re-securing the top was easier than getting at the valve from the back. Could Westinghouse have made that whole experience any more difficult (or the hoses any more prone to wander too near the rotating pulleys)? Recessed, impossible to get leverage on the hose fittings, and bolted to the back panel. The trifecta. |

I'm surprised the Laundromats don't have mirrored controls! :-) By the way, your present wiring matches mine, if it's any help. Hopefully our machines have the same schematic. If they do, that puts the hot water connection on the right, as you're facing the back of the machine (the valve with the beige and blue wires). |
