I have a couple of hoover twinnys inn my collection. the one I really like is a 510 that I got for free from my wifes aunt. It had been her mother-inlaws many years ago. It was stored in the barn out back of the family homestead. anyway. as we know too well it has always had pump issues. so I took the pump off of a 515 that I have for parts. I took it apart and cleaned and oiled it. when I hooked it up and ran it. the bottom end leaked real bad. so I took it off and used silicone sealer on the bottom end section. what do you know it is now working like a champ!!! the lower end still leaks a little. I believe it need a new o ring for the lower end. I still have the old 510 pump on my work bench and Im going to work on it this weekend and try to clean it up. can we get a hoover twin tub timeline? I know they started in the uk. In the late 1950s we had them come over. anyone reading this is obviously a twinny fan so maybe I could get some advice about the pump with a history timeline. thanks so much!! pics and a video to follow soon. thanks Bill

On getting a hoover 510 Bill.

I had a 510 that I passed down to one of my aunts & then she gave it back so I passed it to my brother until he got an automatic washer. One thing I really liked about the hoover I had was the spinner (of course)
;o)

I don't know too much about the time line but I think the 510 came out in the mid 60's. And I think you can find out the year it was produced by the serial number. I think it was either the first 2 numbers in the serial number? Or the last 2 numbers in the serial number.

Good luck with your hoover 510 & happy twin tub washing.
:o)

Seem to recall reading in my copy of service manual

That anytime the lower pump is taken apart a new O ring will be required to reseal when putting it back together.

Mine was having leaking issues from the top of pump, but think it was because the diverter valves were dried out. Likely from very infrequent use (haven't used the thing in nearly year). The pump is brand new but again it was put on several years ago now and if the machine has seen a total of twenty loads would be lucky. Just don't have the time nor patience to cope with all the noise. *LOL*

It might be possible to simply use a generic O ring by going to any supply source and matching what you've got.
