Hello! Looking for input on our new old Hotpoint dryer. This set was shown on this site in mid February and several of you mentioned how sweet it was. We are new to restoration vintage appliances, but my husband is a great tinkerer so we have progressed well with this set so far. The dryer is running well, but he has some leaks in pipes he is still cleaning up. This has the water hose feeding the condensing system inside the unit. Anyone out there have a source for parts ( I know that's a long shot) or any experience that can help us. We have downloaded from the site the manuals and such that we're helpful, but we still haven't confirmed their manufactur pe date. 56, 57, 58?

And now the washer...
Here is the washer from the set. Hubby is pretty pleased with his fix connecting the tub to the pump. We found this site AFTER spending a day working on how to rig current plumbing supplies to connect them again. Now he is working on some leaks around the seals in the tub. After he cleared the impellers in the pump it worked super fine. Again, we are not confident of the exact manufacture date, so any information or advice would be most appreciated.

I am so very happy to see that you are restoring these beautiful and unique machines! We don't see these very often on this site. As a matter of fact, I've never seen a set like this before. Those machines appear to be gently used. You will find this group to be most helpful and supportive. Please keep us posted and congratulations on a fun part of appliance history!

Hotpoint!
this appears to be TOL 57 - in 58 from what I read they came out with the recirculating lint filter! what a awsome set - I cant get enough of this stuff.

kudos to a fantastic set....and for getting them up and running like new again.....
brilliant ideas from your husband for thinking outside the box of drain repairs....did something similar for a wringer once, amazing what you can come up with that will make it function again... keep up the work.....and keep us posted..... | ||

Wow Capi those are absolutely stunning, CONGRATS! I've never seen a TOL Hotpoint pair like yours! I assume they have lit control panels? Can you post a photo with them lit up? (thanks!)
Question: in the photo of the washer with the lid open, it looks like the tub is quite off center, it is?
Hopefully you and your husband generate very little laundry each week. Because (in my humble opinion) it would be best to use your 60 year old washer & dryer as lightly / gently as possible.
Also... I hope you're not going to put doors on your laundry closet, it would be a shame to hide such beautiful machines! | ||

Lights on panels
They do have light up panels. And the agitator is dead on center, must be the angle of the photo that makes it look off. Right now hubby is stressing a bit about getting them running for our active use and is thinking they are a decorative item only, but I want to use them.
They both go thru all the cycles, drain and seem to be functioning as they should. The concern is with water leaking from them both. With the washer we think the seal around the agitator may be compromised, and with the condensing dryer it seems to be in the drain system somewhere. He's replaced several seals in both and had used some very creative plumbing to replace parts, but after 3 days of tinkering I am not his favorite wife anymore. Lol! Looking into finding a local repair place that might have some insight. | ||

washer leak... Capi, does the washer leak all the time it is running or just during the spin? I had a devil of a time with the pump on mine due to a bad gasket. I "made" a new one with Permatex flexible gasket compound which solved the problem nicely.
In my case, the leak seemed to be present whether the washer was running or not.

Washer leak...
The washer leaks when there is water in the tub. Just a slow drip. Because of the concrete tub he's having a hard time getting under it to see where it is from.
. Dryer is running pretty good, the water hose may be plugged again because there is not water going into cool it. He has cleared it before, but it is such a fine mist and these have set for so long that much of what he has done is clean out gunk. They both ran from the beginning, it's just been a mater of seals and clogged motors, no oil. | ||

 Wow, what a beautiful set! The washer appears to have coaxial transmission (a good thing), vs the troublesome Hotpoint/Beam hybrid the year prior. I suspect that they may have used the coaxial transmission in the TOL models and left the crazy Hotpoint/Beam version in the lower level models (like Paul's). I don't know that anyone has found a TOL '57 Hotpoint before, so this is a new one for many of us. (I believe the previous assumptions were that all '57 models used the Hotpoint/Beam arrangement and the '58 model year was the first for the coaxial transmission).
The wash tub is a solid tub and should hold the wash/rinse water until it has spun out, and if water from the wash tub was 'leaking' out it would leak into the outer cabinet, of which there might be a different leak source all together from the outer cabinet. If it is leaking while filling the tub I suspect that the water value may be leaking or between the valve and the fill flume.
The dryer needs some water in order to dry, so hopefully you guys are able to get the water source issue figured out, as well as ensuring that the pump is pumping out from the drying chamber.

Dryer update
Dryer is operating, but there is a leak in the pump that puts the cooling water into the system. Thinking there is a bad seal.
