At least I don't think it is, but I'm not a Kirby collector, either.

Pensacola, FL; $125

I've heard of these gold ones...

going for much, much higher prices when they come up. Which is basically never...$125 is what a run-of-the-mill machine from the era goes for (in very nice shape)….interesting post!

Perfect for adding that sense of arrival to your custom overwrought pink McMansion.

Just my jaded perspective on new-money Silicon Valley foreigners who think gold adds elegance to anything, and transforms the most mundane items into trophies.

As a Kirby collector...

the gold thing holds zero interest to me at all…despite its likely value to a die-hard collector. Someone in the UK or Japan will go mental to have this in their collection though…Same with the gold plated Olympus OM cameras from the 70s which have become EXTREMEMELY expensive--only to those who "have to have"...

There was one of these at a shop here in Omaha.  No idea if it's still there, I don't remember the whole story but I believe it had been plated at a local shop and never picked up.   It was a similar generation Kirby but these giant-head machines never did a thing for me.  Dreadful heavy and poorly balanced for my vacuuming tastes.   I like my 519 or the much newer Diamond Edition, now those can clean carpet.

The Gold Kirbys were awarded to salesmen who sold the most machines in a given time. They are desired on the Vacuum Collectors forums.'Lux,TriStar,Rainbow, made golden award machines, too. You can use them like any other. The gold will wear off if the machine isn't carefully used.I am a Kirby liker.Take them over the new Plasticrap vacuums anyday!
