I remember a neighbor had one of these when I was growing up...Very space saving idea, especially if you don't want to knock out base cabinets to install the dishwasher!

These were made for a while back in the 1970s.
There was one marketed by Speed Queen as well as one by Modern Maid.
I do recall someone cautioning that if you ever needed to replace the dishwasher and put a plastic tub unit into this frame, you might have troubles!

These were made by Modern Maid, Interesting idea but like most MM appliances they were not great in build quality or functionality.

MM kept these in production till around 1990 when D&M went to plastic tank DWs. We replaced many DWs in these units and if it was an electric model you needed to add aluminum panels under the CK and insulation to keep the burner heat from melting the plastic DW tub.

I once got a call where Sears had installed a WP DW under an electric C&CC and after the first time the customer boiled water for spaghetti on the large RF element and then went to pull the top rack of the DW out she found the tank had melted down through the top rack to the point that you could not pull the rack out, LOL. Sears took the DW away and I went back and installed another WP DW properly and they never had a problem.

the dishwasher

is a DM. If it can be removed from the cabinet, shouldn't any 24 inch machine fit in there just like in a wooden frame kitchen cabinet?

Any of them I've seen were in new home developments back in the 70's. Sifton was one of them who built a few neighborhoods in London and Sarnia , possibly the gta as well.  With all the postage stamp sized condo's that have sprouted up you'd think something like this would make a comeback.
