Hi Everyone:

I purchased a set that was advertised in Palm Springs last week that was posted in Shopper's Square.
The washer works like a dream, but the dryer
When on automatic sensor dry cycle doesn't seem to dry clothes well. It sort of makes its way through the cycle quickly and clothes are damp still.

On timed cycle it drys fine. Could the sensors just
Be dirty from years of dryer sheet build up?

Where are the sensors? Any help is appreciated. I usually prefer not using timed cycle.

Nice Pair

Glad to see that they were snagged by someone who appreciates them.  The dryer appears to be a DDE9200V.  You can use the link to determine the month and year that these were manufactured, based on the serial number of each.  I think (others should know for sure) that the sensors for these dryers are located in the exhaust/lint filter area of the drum - should be visible after removing the lint filter.

Thank you!

It appears to be August 1978. I cleaned
The sensors really well and it appeared to do a lot better on the permanent press auto sensor cycle on low heat.

Thank you so much.

Also it didn't come
With the mini basket. Do all mini baskets fit all models or are there different versions for particular models?

The lint filter/ detergent dispenser is quite large.

Not all mini-baskets fit.  Is the activator have straight vanes or are they ramped?  That will determine the mini-basket.  I do suspect this machine, like mine, has straight vanes.  Your dryer is probably 1.5 years newer than mine and probably has slightly different functionality in relation to the temp buttons & auto dry cycles than mine.  I'd love to see closeup of the side of the panel with the buttons.  Where your next to top buttons says special, mine said normal heat.  That button was intended for the poly/knit cycle or perm press cycle.  I wonder what was special about that button vs. normal or low heat.  On mine, low heat was only usable on timed dry.  The color of the wording on the left side of the buttons is a visual indicator as to which cycles that button can be used for.  If you haven't discovered yet, the end of cycle buzzer buzzes for a continuous 2 minutes at the end before the cycle stops.  If you select extra care, that initial buzzer period is 4 minutes and then buzzes for a minute each periodically through the extra care segments of the cycle.

Floyd, can you post a photo of the control panel on the washer?

I think it's pretty safe to assume the AGITATOR is ramped as I'm pretty sure they all were by this time.

All the washers I've had of this era were super capacity 18 lb., and had a green straight-vane agitator.  The extra wide wash pan is usually associated with the super capacity models.

Here are pictures

Hi Kevin:

Here are the pictures. Also today
I did a Load of towels and it wasn't a balanced load.

I went in when it was finished and the machine had moved during the unbalanced spin.

There was also a smell of burnt rubber????

I hope that was a fairly small load of towels (like 1/3full) given the water level setting, if pics taken after that load of towels

GE Filter Flo

How would the GE FF look this year if it was still being built? Would it have a bigger tub or the standard size tub?

interesting thought....

maybe a deeper tub, by putting the motor upside down on top of the suspension bar rather than underneath...or even direct drive...

dual purpose, or two separate pumps....pump out and filter flo....

odd, there was never a stacked filter flo setup....

stainless inner tub, plastic outter tub, less chance of rub/rust through...

would there be an HE version, low water levels, smaller fins on the agitator, yet the filter pan would flow a concentrated detergent mixture over the load during agitation...

you almost can have that now with a mini wash setting, without the mini basket.....great concentrated cleaning for items like cleaning rags...as the filter pan showers the load with detergent...

I could go on and on...

It could spray fabric softener onto the load during rinse. How about bleach when washing whites? Handling everything from lightly soiled delicates to tough loads like dirty cottons and denims. See through glass lid. What are all of your ideas of what a modernday GE filter-flo would look like?

Yes, all "filter flo's" have a drive belt.

Not a bad job changing the GE belt, unlike an older WP based belt drive.
