Rare as hen's teeth...

That model was not featured in big-book catalogs, but possibly in a sales circular or the "appliance specialog" as they called them. It seems to have been a very obscure model. I have never seen one anywhere, except on the sales floor in Feb. 1981 when we bought a new KM that we eventually cancelled when my Dad and I fixed our '74. I wanted this one because its gold straight vane agitator was reminiscent of the agitators from the 1960s, and I like the standard basket. It was not enough for Mom, as she'd already had a large capacity and wasn't going backwards.

I have come across I'd bet more than 100-150 1980 KM models over the years, everything from their BOL 100 series single cycle model and the 200 series large capacity to the Lady Kenmore electronic, especially in the 1990s when I was actively rebuilding things that came off the Sears haul-back truck, every model except this one that is. Obviously one was sold somewhere to have had all that literature.

Available at the same time as this was the 1979 500 series (110.72955100) that has separate water level and temp switches, and a manual filter. This model above did not have a filter. I've seen a few of the '79 500s, including one in my collection which is one of my favorites.

COOL!

I like basic stuff

To me I like either the fully tricked out version or the basic bare bones unit

What was the most popular/commonly sold boL memory for that era?

Such an awesome machine. This and a fully decked out lady k with knob control's and dispenser (not fond of the early electronics)

Also wonder what dryer paired with this

The parts manual I think you should be able to snag from Sears' website, Searspartsdirect.com, you may have to do it one page at a time.

As to what was most the common BOL machine, I am not sure, I don't think any of the 29-inch machines were huge sellers, especially as compared to the mid-line 70 series models. I don't know what you want to consider truly BOL, but I consider this machine lower MOL.

There is a built-in longevity issue with all the low to mid-line machines from 1980 in that they had painted tops until you got to the middle 70-series models that finally had porcelain. The polyester paint (Sears called it DynaGuard I believe) hadn't come out yet, so anything not porcelain was just enamel painted. These parts rusted quickly in humid environments. I got involved with these machines in repairing and rebuilding in 1990-1991, and there was already a lot of replacements happening in the painted top 1978, 1979 and 1980 models. Some of them were incredibly ugly with rust already. What was left by the mid 90s or later may not have been a good representation of what was out there when new.

I think I'd say that in this range of machine, the 1982 large capacity KM 500 (with the walnut colored panel) was by far the best seller of all these plastic panel BOL to MOL models. That model sold really well it seems, based on the number that I've come across over the years.

As to the dryer for this 1980 washer, there wasn't a separate model, it was paired with the standard 1979 KM 500 dryer, 110.76955100, or the 1980 large capacity 110.82050100. The control panels were exact matches.

I saw a post you posted a few years back with an even more basic unit wiht out perm press and so forth (around the time Arizona decided to have fun with some washers you where having shipped)

Just simple, basic machines you can enjoy.. I don't wanna futz with fixing dispensers and so forth....

I wish they where ;isted in the catologs.... I'd love to see a washer with literally just one cycle and warm water.. I know of one Signature branded Hotpoint like that

This machine is interesting for being 2-speed.
