Hi all! found this forum thru a google search. The house I moved into has a KitchenAid Imperial HObart KDI-18. It's awesome. Works in 30 min. (I don't use dry cycle). it's in pristine condition. Landlord told me it was probably used 25 times in 40 years (or more.... maybe 50). So I move in and use it once or twice a week 9 months so it's been used twice as much in the past 9 months as it's been used in the last 40-50 years.

anyway, just today i ran it and no water. Motor runs. It cycles through. Door opens to dispense soap. everything clicks the way it should but no water. After some searching I'm thinking it's the water inlet valve. I posted a video on youtube.

I'll be telling the Landlord when she visits next week she'll prob have the plumber come fix it. In the meantime I'm just looking for ideas.

I could even prob. fix it myself if I felt confident enough but I'm sure she'll have the plumber do it.

Thanks everyone!

Since i can't edit, if anyone has a parts schematic so I can see how this thing comes apart. It looks like it's all on the bottom and the bottom plate comes off but I"m not forcing it until I look at paperwork. I have the original paperwork but it's just a manual not a parts breakdown

Hey do you think if I call Kitchenaid they will honor the warranty? 8-D

If you want anymore pics or video just let me know. thanks again.

Non Filling KDI-18 DW

Check that there is nothing under the blue plastic float in the left front corner of the tub, this plastic needs to move up and down freely and be in the down position for the DW to fill. Other than this the inlet valve is a likely culprit.

@ DADoES

Aaah ok... thought it was older than that. I just looked in the manual it's copywrited 1977. so it's 39 years old. Thanks for the correction.

For your sake, I hope the plumber that takes a look at the machine is willing to go ahead and repair it. You may have a defective water inlet valve. People here can tell you where you can get them.

Don't let the age of your dishwasher be a damper for you. Many here would gladly pay to have your machine in their possession.

Good luck and let us know what happens. And of course, ......

WELCOME TO AW.ORG!

@Washdaddy

Thank you Washdaddy! I LOVE this machine! I am a fan of old stuff. My house is almost 80 years old. I lived in an old house one other time but it was never taken care of and it was a dump. This house was taken care of and even tho walking into it is basically going back in time I love it. I mean, check out this kitchen! and the wallpaper! lol. Ok so there's white paneling in the living room but at least it's white and I can pair it w/ any color. My landlord grew up in this house after they moved out from Queens in the late 40's. Her parents lived here until their deaths with her father just passing away in 2012 at age 99. My LL left a lot of stuff in the basement, many power tools from the 50's and 60's, many products like cleaners and paints from then too. Every time I go downstairs I end up getting delayed looking at stuff.

I hope to be here a looooooooooooong time.
