Always good to meet new members with our hobby and "Welcome" them into the madness, a few of us met at Al`s Emporium and met up with Mike who is Mikeymatic on AW, we also had chance to sort out the AEG integrated dishwasher sink and more new appliances for the washroom which is always a nice bonus...

Here is the AEG integrated dishwasher sink from 1972 which is all separates but can be linked together with a dishwasher / washing machine and tumble dryer which would have made a statement in any kitchen of the era..the sink drainer is larger to accommodate the 60cm dishwasher unit..

Linked up with its matching of the era style AEG Lavamat Tumble Dryer, we are on the look out for the matching washing machine which will compliment the line-up for the new showroom..The fascia are brushed steel and are quite deep which looks quite rugged and sturdy as the units are, they weigh a ton ha ha..

The salt regeneration unit is unlike the style today - you mix the salt solution in a plastic flask and after unscrewing the top of the tank in the base of the AEG dishwasher you screw on the flask and it delivers the solution into the water softening unit..the washarm looks like the older Hobart cast styling I think !!

Also had a look at the Miele integrated appliances ready for the new display, these are really the best or "Immer Besser" of appliances, again the matching wahing machines and dryers are available to match, the Rapid Advance timers are a unique feature to the 70`s styling..

And inside the washroom before we baked in the unusually hot UK sun. Mike has a Hoover Keymatic 3224 sloping front washing machine which he is renovating, (along with of of ours in various states of repair ha ha) and he is needing a door boot / gasket which we are hoping a fellow member of the club can oblige with to set him on his Keymatic journey..

We had a few new washers and dryers to christen after a change around, the "One In One Out" rule has been well and truly busted, but hey...here is Richard showing off the NIB Bendix 7168 washer and dryer, the dryer has never been used and the washing machine a handful of times - many thanks to Amar for helping extend the Bendix collection.
ps, I think Servis Suze is having a peaky grope there dont ya think !! |

The Hotpoint purple range was a big hit in UK kitchen, the colour range is officially called "Amethyst" door glass where deep purple and and buttons on the washing machines, tumble dryers and top loaders where fading shaded of purple to white, often faded but this set looks like new, presenting the Hotpoint 1851 with vitreous enamel inner and outer drum, later models had an inner stainless steel drum.

Great people and great appliances make a great day! Those AEG's are quite something and yes they are heavy. I hope the matching washing machine turns up.
The older Miele fascia was indeed a bit higher than the later ones. But when combined in a Miele kitchen center it sort of looks like the same height as the cabinets. Here's a picture. |

It was not just the Bendix machines which were NIB, there was also an Ariston single tub washer and spin dryer. These were originally branded as Colston (Ariston took over Colston - I think in 1980) but were actually the last version of the Rolls machines first seen in 1959.

Ahh, the age old quandry .....
Easily sorted this time because not only did we have the Ariston version of the washer but also the Colston. This had been well used but was still running like a champ although, to be honest there is not much to go wrong. They are quite small, they have a 4 1/2lb dry cottons capacity where, for example, the Hoover models had 6lb dry cotton capacity. The story behind these was that the father of the ebay seller had worked in the factory where these were made. They did not survive long after the Ariston takeover and he bought about half a dozen models which he has been using in the 35 years since. |

These were bought from Bishop Auckland - quite a bit further north of where i live so Richard (Ricky5050) very kindly picked them up for me and transported them down at the weekend. I was very pleased to return the favour as he bought a Creda Debonair spin dryer in Milton Keynes which was able to pick up from on by weekly commute home - win win all round :)

It was a pleasure to meet Mike for the first time and to share the joy of these classic machines, and of course to see some old friends again - this was just a mini-mini meet just on one day which, needless to say, shot by far too quickly.
Although we did not have any slant front Keymatic action we Mike was able to see a couple of the more modern Keymatics in action Looking forward to the next time :) Al |

Fridges were mostly freestanding at that time, or they were very small built-ins. But there were matching ranges. Here are a few examples. There name was Deluxe, later they got the name Competence. Perhaps there were even other names, but I can't remember that.

What can one say. I know they can be an acquired taste, but they look lovely too and nice to see a bit more of the range, in the form of a matching fridge! Oozing 1970s brashness :-) |

Wonderful material Paul! Thanks for sharing!
The AEG Novamat 85 is new to me. I have never seen it in later documentation. It must have had the same suspension as the Novamat 64, which was a "dancing" washing machine. It's speculation, but I bet that Novamat 85 could have had issues with falling over during the spin cycle, knowing how wild the 64 model could go when spinning. |

Hi Martin, yes always god to catch up and share the hobby, the more we used and put together the AEG integrated models the more we like,
busy planning the plumbing for our next meet up !! Cheers Steve, you know what its like, where will it all go, can Roberts one in one out rule really work ha ha....yes, you need strong support britches when moving these beasts.. Vacerator, those models sound so much easier to buy keep and store ha ha... Louis , thanks for posting the brochures, where they very popular in your country ? I could imagine the only time you would have found them on full display was a high end kitchen designer of store like Harrods over here at the time.. Matty, always good to see you over here and listen to the old appliance family stories !! Chris, we are going to need more chairs for the fireworks this year ha ha, but great to see new members with the same passion. Mike, glad you got over to meet some of the motley crew, and yes next time we must do that "Keymatic Workshop" it will be a bring your own and fix it workshop ha ha.. Paul, ta for the brochures, goes to show what was about at the time, very sturdy appliances and as the the name states " Advanced Engineering from Germany" certainly promotes the range well. !! Nowthen can you just dial up that time warp continuum machine... Ian - glad you enjoyed the unique Philips washer & dryer stack set seat and viewing gallery !! |

And as the title says we also had another first (which as well as the Ariston / Colston serarates) we connected up for its first use the Ariston 1970`s dishwasher, I picked this up from a family in Birmingham who had emigrated from Italy in the 70`s bringing all new appliances for their home being built for them - but their new home came with a fully fitted kitchen and laundry so these appliances where stored in the garage - fast forward to 2008 when they where moving and sold all unused appliances off !!

Pandandi was a biological detergent to be used for the prewash only in the biological wash program (it wasn't meant for use in the wash phase as well: the results would be poor if you did): I can remember that a half-used box of this detergent came out from some corner under the sink when we took out our old Zanussi dishwasher that had given up its soul. I never used it or saw it used, my mom told me that it was more expensive than a box of Somat or Neofos (the Italian version of Calgonit, we have never been fans of the Finish products) despite being half the weight, I also believe that we never used it because the old machine did a good job on pots and pans on the normal program if you let them soak for a while before putting them in.
BTW, Mike, I love the G560 dishwasher: it is more or less like my G562. |
