HELP !!! Newbie here, sorry if I don't know where to ask

Hi all, My name is Steve I'm from Long Island. I always try to repair, use and keep working old appliances, cars, etc. Because I feel they are superior to everything made these days.

Have a problem with my 1969 MayTag clothes washer model A206. The timer has burnt contacts. Timer motor is fine, which was rebuilt with BRASS gear by DAVE in Pennsylvania. Now the timing mech. is no good.

OK, the timer was replaced back in 1985 once already with an MTS rebuilt model # 2-4454 Kingston DIV Kokomo Ind.
The problem I have is that the replacement of WP204454 or 204545 is not exact. My timer has 18 spade connectors on only ONE side of the casing including the two timer motor contacts. The replacement has connectors on BOTH sides of the casing adding up to I believe 18 as well. I don't know the pin-out. How do I know which wire goes where? Also does anyone have an exact working timer like mine in the photos or know where to get it? You will see two photos of NEW timer first and the rest of the photos my old timer & dial. I heard Kingston made 2 same models of 204454 & 204454-2

All the wires are numbered. Have you tried transferring wire by wire to the new timer, using the number on the wire to the same number on the terminal? The -2 might have to do with a Permanent Press cycle. If the number of terminals are the same and all the wires match up to the new timer, you might be ok. I do have a new genuine Maytag timer in the box. The box label doesn't have the -2 designation, but the timer itself does say 2-4454-2. Hope this helps.

Hi COLDSPOT66!
Does the timer have contacts on one side only? And it looks like mine in the photos? I am willing to buy it from you if it is the same... Please let me know and THANKS for replying. I will stand by for your reply in the days ahead. Please see photos

Hi Steve,

Unfortunatly, it does have terminals on both sides...not sure why. Do all the numbered wires match up to the terminals? Sometimes they do change the configuration of terminals. I can tell you the terminal numbers on the other side of the timer, if that helps.

John

COLDSPOT, I think you have the 204454 or aka WP204454 which has terminals on both sides. I will try to get the terminal #'s.

Goatfarmer yes I saw that one, but I think it is a local pickup. I will ask if they are willing to ship freight. Could be $100 for shipping.

COLDSPOT here is the wiring diagram I drew for my timer. Does the timer you have indicate the SAME #'s? Also there are a couple of wires without numbers but I labeled them to where they go

Hey COLDSPOT? Did the terminal codes match up on your timer to my diagram?
