59-60? Don't think I've seen this exact model before with the whole freezer door in ribbed aluminum. Foot pedal for lower door.

I agree with '59 or '60. Not a Frost Guard, and with a top freezer, that's OK with me. This is the first top freezer I've seen from this period. It looks like they transferred the ribbing from the handles on the '57 and applied it to the front of the freezer. I'd entertain one if priced right and in better shape.
It's not worth even half what they're asking. |

I could see the handles are different than 57-58. These sit on legs above the door surface. The 57-58 handle is more like an L shaped piece of trim running down the edge of the door with one edge raised above the door surface which is where you grab it. Wasn't it around 61-62 when they switched to the handle shaped like a pitchfork? This post was last edited 01/13/2017 at 19:41 |

I believe the item laying in the door shelf is the kick plate that fits behind the foot pedal. I cant make out the lettering at the bottom of the lower handle. There are two words. Looks like the upper one begins with an S.

Maybe it says "Swingout" shelves? And maybe that's where they put "Frost Guard" on appropriate models?
I took a closer look and yeah, that must be the front grille in the door shelf. The fact that it isn't as wide as the door made me second guess. Looks like a poor design that would clog up with dust in a hurry.

The metal piece laying in the door shelf goes under the ref evaporator plate.
This ref was build in a time period of bad compressors for GE, the wiring and condenser fan motors were also problems.
In any event a really cool ref and a really good tech could get it all working, but even though it is not a Frost Guard model it is still a very high power user, these only had fiber glass insulation in the cabinets and usually the insulation above the freezer and under the ref section is very compressed and ineffective. |
