These globe top types date back to more like 1946.
They were cheap "builder's" or "landlord" grade units. They didn't even include a dial for the cold control. Any temperature adjustment required going around the back and using a screwdriver.
It makes sense that the finish would be kind of rough. It wasn't up to the same standards as a real monitor top. |

Could we have a clear glass globe made and blue lights to bring drama or just add a narrow slit that lights up? I am crazy.
