New Universal automatic washer with exclusive gyrating "agitator basket". Does anyone have one of these machines or have knowledge to share regarding this interesting description of operation, could it have been similar to the new Speed Queen washer where agitator and wash basket move as one?

Universal washers and dryers were made by Apex. Apex has what is refereed to as the "bouncing basket" Wash-o-Matic. There are only two Apex Wash-o-Matic's known to exist.

Robert,

I can't believe over 9 years have passed since you found this gem. I'm happy that you have got to enjoy this beauty for so many years.

I rather assumed from this that the washer was a horizontal-axis rotating-drum machine - I take it that it was in fact an 'agitub' like the Apex?

Universal was one of the first companies to make a window air conditioner after World War II. There was a 1947 model in the window of my algebra class in high school. A parent had donated it. It was a beast but fun to check out.
