Hello everyone!

Both of these sets are local to me. Will that GE have the stream of water running over the agitator while it's washing?

Which set do you guys think is the better one? They are priced identically. Which is more reliable? Cleans better? Newer?

Thanks!!!

I will go with the whirlpool set over in Arizona you don't see these whirlpools for sale they are very rare here . I have memories of my grandmas house seeing this washer she always used whirlpool washers . she had a set like this and when I was really young she had one in harvest gold. I think they are great washers

The GE is a FilterFlo, yes.

They're completely different machines, mechanisms.  You have room for both?

Thanks for the replies! No, I only have room for one set. They are both $100 for the washer and dryer - I thought it's a good deal. I don't think the GE has the little basket that sits on the agitator, but I like that stream of water constantly running. About what years are these machines? Which would you get given the choice?

As Always, thanks to everyone for feedback! :)

Hi Gabriel,

They are both the GE & WP (washers) are good performers, both have their faithful followers and I imagine others may chime in here.

The GE filter-flo has THE BEST (and easiest to clean) lint/hair filtering system hands down!   These GE washers also use/waste more water due to the inner/outer tub design.  I think this GE set "may" be slightly newer than the WP set, but don't quote me on this.

This WP set is probably 1983-84-85 and is the "belt drive" design.  They make a unique "woo-woo-woo" sound while running as well.   The spin speed @ 525 rpm is slower than the GE.   I've had both GE's & WP/Kenmore's and I feel the GE may be a bit more reliable then the whirlpool, due to the WP having more little things which can fail.

Next a quick FYI.... this forum page of AW (Shoppers Square) is best used for listing things you want to sell OR want searching for here to buy.   When you have questions about machines like this (and the Maytags in your other post), it's much better to tick the button for "vintage washers" like on the photo below so it posts in the "Imperial" (pink) forum.  You'll get more replies there too.

Hi Kevin!

Thanks very much for the info. Sorry about the wrong forum, I'll try to correct it. I like the old belt drive models. Is there a resource page here which lists the models and years of each make? Like, how did you know that the WP is belt drive 83-85? I'm trying to learn more about these older style washers and dryers.

Thanks!
Gabe

Whirlpool Set gets My Vote

I would go with the Whirlpool set as it is more interesting to watch it perform and its repair history is better than GE's. I am betting that this set was made in the mid 1980's and they were rated higher in performance than the GE's.

Whirlpool set for sure:

They are both much better built and NO GE washer or dryer could match the washing/drying performance of those Whirlpools.

well, for most its a toss up....and theres pros and cons

I would go with the GE washer for scrubbing and great rinsing, plus better extraction....

matched to the Whirlpool dryer, for best wrinkle free results every time...
