How cool is that!!! A solid-tub Calypso!

I wonder if Whirlpool looked back into their own archives for the idea of the calypso. It's amazing what these companies were dreaming up in the post war era.

This is remarkably similar to the Bendix Power Surge washer introduced in 1956! I would love to talk to the engineers of both machines to see what their problems and issues were with the designs and they overcame them.

Bendix must have jumped on their patent on the day and hour this one expired!

Today's Whirlpool patent wouldn't have expired until the 1960's, so Bendix would not have been able to use it in 1956 like they did, unless they paid royalties to Whirlpool which I doubt. They probably made enough changes to get their own patent issued for their Power Surge washers.

I wondered about this one

We just got a 1956 BH&g and it featured the Bendix Power Surge washer, but was not too specific about how it worked. I am once again enlightened
