 It took me a while to get this new combo... I made arrangements to buy it over a year ago, then only managed to get to pick it up early this summer. It sat in the garage since then... However this weekend and with muscle provided by Phil and Hubby, we got the Philco-Bendix down the basement stairs without hurting ourselves. I decided right then and there that this combo is now a permanent fixture in the collection!
I call this one 'Divine'. It weighs over 300 pounds, is a washer or a dryer or both, and is over the top with glitz and glamour. I love this control panel what can I say!!

Here we go! This was a fairly small load of permanent press shirts for the maiden wash.
I had forgotten how much fun this combo is! The GE in the Wonder Kitchen is going to cry, but I think I like the Duomatic better... LOL It seemed to take quite a while to dry, but I didn't hear it discharging anywhere near as much water as the GE does during a dry cycle. I couldn't find the total water consumption in the service literature I have - does anyone happen to know what that might be? I'm just curious. I still need to level the machine a bit better (the spongy floor in Ogden gave it the shakes during the high-speed spins) and I have a bit of a drip from the lint clean-out trap area but I am sure that's not going to be a big issue. | ||

Hooray & CONGRATS Paul!
Paul, that machine is certainly a thing of beauty! As I recall, I think "Divine" may be closer to 400 lbs, if not over. I'm pretty sure '54 I had was around 430..... and I doubt they "went on any diets" until '59 or '60, but what do I know. haha
Some years back I visited John (Gyromatic) in Minneapolis and shot video of his rare gas '57 Duomatic. Very neat machine and makes some really neat sounds!

Just for fun, here's the thread I started when I finally made arrangements to pick this beast up. I am glad I have neighbours with barns full of heavy equipment to help their nutty neighbours haul vintage appliances... LOL

Duomatic I have that machine but it needs restoration.Hoping to get it going.Congratulations Paul you have some great machines at The Ogden Laundry.I am curious to know how many of these machines are in existence.Cant be many. | ||

I did warn him that you once had a devil of a time getting one out of a basement, Ben. Chris very wisely declared "You bloody well aren't moving this out again!" Water valve is good - dang I am lucky. I will, of course, have to do further testing of that Cold, Cool, and Warm risning option!! | ||

What an interesting machine, look forward to seeing it in operation! If there'd been a new US-made equivalent we'd have bought one for camp, as opposed to the boring WP stacker.
BTW the "real" Divine, actual name Glenn Milstead, was from my town and went to my high school, as was & did John Waters. The minister who conducted Glenn's funeral in 1988 was one of my neighbors, and "Pink Flamingos" was filmed on my friend Bruce's family farm...JW has always been one of my heros! | ||

Divine!
Years ago now at a party we all sat around and watched "Lust In the Dust". I never laughed so hard in my life.
Fast forward a few decades and Divine is still with us and having an impact. Disney freely admits the character of Ursula (the witch in Little Mermaid) was heavily influenced (if not based) on Divine. Looks, make-up, movements, etc... | ||
