'Low' is somewhat of a misnomer on a Whirlpool washer of this era... A relatively high level of water ensures good rollover washing action.
I thought I had the same problem with my all of my Whirlpool-built machines (a 56 WP Imperial, a 65 Lady K, and a 66 Inglis) with a variable water level, but this is perfectly 'normal'. |

Thanks Guys - I haven't let it fill up on the high setting yet as I have only tested it once - I will work some more on it this weekend. I will post some pics also. Thanks for your help. Bob |

I had a 64 model once....three levels, low, medium, high......which turned out to be 2/3, 3/4 and full.....
on a 1977 model, there was an ExLow water level setting on the variable selection, which actually was really low....but I think that was finally incorporated when equipped with the Double Duty Surgilator, as the lower wings were for the so called HandWash setting... but on many machines like your 62, I used a Dremel, and filed down the clover leaf, until I got water levels that were sort of equal to the description... |

Post pics for reference of exactly what are the levels you're getting. Our 1962 machine for some years would fill to almost touching the tub cover on high (pic 1, although it had a black bakelite Surgilator). The local service guy came by to fix an unrelated problem (belt, wig-wag, rusted-off lid switch, whatever it was), remarked on the excessively-high levels and adjusted it. The result put low at approx the first curve above the large lower fins (pic 2). |

This is the water level on low - Just like your machine originally filled. I'm going to put it on high fill this weekend and see how far it goes - Hopefully not over the top of the tub Thanks for this info. Bob |

No pic appears in the post ending in 428.
I was going to suggest having Todd weigh in about the '74 Kenmore he recently acquired, but he already did. My mom's same Kenmore filled about halfway on the lowest setting.
The '67 Snorge it replaced was an entirely different story. That machine would barely cover the lower vanes on the lowest setting -- for when serious shredding was the desired outcome. |

Yes Now-Now, A Norge on hi-speed agitation is more gentle on clothing than a Maytag Power-Fin agitator, this is well proven.
I never once had a customer tell me their Norge was hard on clothing and with MT I couldn't begin to count all the cases where customers told me their MT washer was hard on clothing.

My grandmother had the 24 inch model just like this. Only difference aside of the width was there was no water level control. A neighbor across the street from me had a 29 inch version identical to this one, but it was a later model with the shorter lid handle. |
