Just the two oven handles are worth more than what he’s asking. |

I noticed those photo magnets right away, but it's a testament to the seals the doors make that those pictures aren't all singed looking (which might be an improvement -- yeah, I know, they're somebody's kids yadda yadda yadda). I presume there's no vacancy on the refrigerator. They'll have to come up with a new plan when they discover the stainless surface on the replacement oven isn't magnetic. |

Hi Everyone, and Happy New Year
These ovens would have a broil and bake element, the retained heat claim comes from fairly heavy insulation and a tight fitted door seal and no oven vent to speak of.
In theory you can heat up the oven to a high temperature put the food in and turn the heat off and let the oven coast, while this might work for some foods its really not the best way to get a predictable result. We were at a fancy dinner party for Christmas day dinner and they put a prime rib in a 500F oven for a short period of time and turned off the heat and let it sit for an hour or so. It looked great and tasted great on the outside but was 90% raw and had no flavor on the inner meat.
90% of new SS appliances are now magnet, because of the great popularity of SS appliances manufactures have had to greatly cheapen the outer SS panels so they are really just SS looking or plated, there is simply not enought nickel and chrome in the world to make all these appliances of real SS.
Hi Eddie, I sure hope you are right that impractical and ugly SS appliances and even uglier granite counter tops are on their way out. Hopefully they can come up with ways to recycle all the ugly granite into building foundations or something by crushing it rather than just burying it in landfills.

Hi John.
Funny you mention the recycling of Granite. I often wondered if the Earth's Axis will change it's tilt when all the Granite and Marble gets ripped out of homes. Then you will see the Vintage Appliance Niche explode !!! Everyone's taste is different, but give me those Pastel Colors again. So soothing to the eye. |

The kids just got a new Frigidaire refrigerator with "black stainless" finish. It looks good -- as far as blending with their older black appliances, but it's probably going back. It makes weird noises like chickens pecking at something. I think that's normal, as I've heard a much older GE do the same thing, but to me (and them), it's unacceptable. I've yet to advise them that the Frigidaire brand as a whole is unacceptable. Nate got a new Frigidaire due to sudden failure of his old Hotpoint a few years ago, and that thing makes weird noises too, like moaning sounds a la "What a world, what a world."
As for kitchen design, I have a higher tolerance for granite counter tops than I do for the trendy (more like '70s throwback) Arabesque tile that's being used for backsplashes and bathrooms all over HGTV, as is dark blue cabinetry in kitchens, sometimes with gold hardware. The half-life for that crap will be very brief, I think. |
