I'm normally from the other side. However, this time I have a dishwasher question. My boyfriend recently purchased a used KitchenAid dishwasher. The home it came from had hard water and the dishwasher needs a good cleaning. We installed it last night and it hums for about a second when it tries to wash. It won't drain the water either. I'm thinking it's the pump. Are these hard to replace? Could it be something else besides the pump? It heats up and the fan turns on for drying. It just won't wash or drain the water.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks, Kenny Loveland

Main motor is jammed or bad, you can replace the entire motor and pumps if you have one or figure out what is wrong with yours.

Other than that bit of advice more information is needed, like a model #, also is there any sign that water has been leaking over the main motor ?

It's a KD-21 I was able to find the service manual here. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. Thanks

I will. My boyfriend found a nail that was jamming the garbage disposal. The previous owner did not take care of her machine despite what she said :(. This is replacing a cheap G.E that was leaking. I like the KitchenAid. It's vintage and seems to go with the house better than the cheap G.E.

I have this exact dishwasher but it’s a 1984

It’s a work horse and love it. A little old lady lived in our home so I assume it got little use for its first 32 years. We’ve been here 3 years and run about once a day.
Hope it lasts for quite s long time. Remodeled the kitchen around it and contractor fought to
Pull it out.

No way! Good luck.
