After recently overloading my KM, I stripped the agitator dogs, so for $5 I've got a new set, and they went in...easily...kind of proud of myself! Was also able to clean out some ahem residue from the inside of the agitator to boot (probably should lift the top and see how bad the outer tub is...).

It’s an easy job, especially after you have do it once before. I plan to replace the dogs on three machines I currently have and plan to sell, unless they look fresh I will swap them out. Dog packs are cheap, especially by the 1/2 dozen or more.

By all means lift the lid, easy and satisfying to exercise the accumulated crude.

Do you do it like on a BD with a putty knife an inch from the edge?

I don’t know about belt drive machines but on the direct drive you can very easily remove the whole cabinet by tilting it forward. The only problem comes putting it back if your cabinet and/or frame is bent or damaged.

The top deck does *not* lift up on DD machines, it's attached to the cabinet front/sides via screws from beneath.  The entire outer cabinet is removed with the top/lid attached as the video above shows, the rear panel is left standing attached to the base and holding the console.

The console anchor screws (if it has them instead of the clips) may be in a couple different locations depending on the design of it - at the back corners as the video shows, or at the front corners.  Some Kenmore models have them in front but under trim pieces that snap (carefully) off.
