replaced the electric motor on my old maytag wringer washer. Had it on it's back
When I tested it, the wringer will not turn. I disassembled the wringer rollers from the drive head, and the vertical shaft is turning. There are two gears that can engage the gear on the roller. One upper (one direction) and one lower (other direction) These gears are turning, but you can stop them by hand with the shaft still tuning. As you move the control lever a collar slides up and down, I guess to engage one or the other. Problem is collar slides up and down, but the gears won't engage, you can still stop them by hand. Not sure where to go from here. Worked before I installed the new motor and had the machine turned over, but the wringer is fully engage down on the shaft, and the vertical shaft still turns. Any ideas?
