The "major brand" W&D set (front-load washer, console-mounted controls, IIRC) was probably a Frigidaire. Maybe Pacific Sales withheld mentioning the name to sidestep a minimum-advertised-price rule or something similar. |

I recently saw a new set of Gibson front-loaders. Gibson is Electrolux's "lower-end" brand, so that might explain the low price. |

Some Home Depots have been selling Danby brand front loaders, for around that price. $400 for the washer, $300 for the dryer. They are supposed to be good units, made in Slovenia. Only about 1.6 cu ft, but they have internal heaters that can boost to 200F. All that on 110 volts too. I saw the pair at my local HD a couple of months ago. They are no longer there, but I understand that they can be ordered if someone wants one. |
