Hello Gentlemen!

I am working on an idea with a fellow collector/enthusiast. Our idea is to host a small appliance convention for those who collect other appliances besides vacuum cleaners, washers, dryers, mixers, toasters, irons, fans, well, you get the idea!

We could host it at a hotel with a meeting room similar to the way the vacuum cleaner convention is held. We realize this may be a challenge for those who collect large appliances but perhaps those collectors may be willing to host the offsite event at their homes similar to a "wash-in" at a designated point in the convention "weekend".

We need to form a small organizing committee so that we can explore the options: time of year, location, types of attractions, and even events such as making blueberry pancakes with the Sunbeam Waffle Iron and Grill model C1. Fans would be blowing, toasters would be toasting, mixers whirling, and so much more. There would be a for sale area, for trade area, and a free pile, too!

We need to determine if there is any interest in this type of venue. You would not have to be a member of either group per se. Oh! We can even have a sewing machine area and ironing station, too! What is washed at the "wash-in" would be brought back to the hotel for ironing later on.

Sean C, perhaps you may be interested in being on this committee, as well!

Please post your comments and thoughts here and if you'd like to be on the organizing committee. Then we can look at next steps.

Where is "M"?

A member in Michigan may have the perfect venue (an old variety/dime store) where he is setting up vignettes, etc. with vintage appliances large and small.

I am in CT........

Perhaps you may want to be on our committee and he, as well? This will be a well thought out and carefully planned event, where any collector is welcome and made to feel that they are an integral part of a group of kindred spirits!

Isn't anyone at all interested?

I know many of us collect smaller appliances and this would be a great opportunity to match names to faces and screen names and share our interest in other household machines or appliances.

It sounds like an interesting idea, even though I really don't have a collection.

I would think Hans and the others that have such items would enjoy such a get together.

I live a long way from CT, but if it were held closer I'd likely go.

Please note

A "Small Appliance" convention details are yet to be discussed in terms of the time of year, dates, and the location. Ideally, we would like to make it as central as possible and where the hotel is as close to the airport as possible making it easy to get to back and forth. Perhaps a discounted hotel rate which would also include a free breakfast would be considered. These are just some of the things that will need to be discussed.

Please everyone, don't rule out the possibility of being able to attend such an event until the details are disclosed. Again, this event can only occur if there are enough people who express an interest. For some, this would make for a nice little vacation.

Think about it!
