Hi everyone,

After nearly 3 long years and a lot of hard work, I finally had the 'official' opening of 'Leons Classic Appliances' this weekend.

A number of family and friends including Nathan (Brisnat81) and Michael came along to enjoy some food and drink and see the unveiling.

Here are some pics from the opening including of a recent acquisition: a rare fully programmed Hoover 585.

Any international members would be very welcome to come and view the collection if / when you can make it over to Australia one day.

Cheers

Leon

Wow! Great collection, Leon, and congratulations on the grand opening of the museum! The kitchen table and chairs in photo #10 are excellent as well. Had always heard about Hoover's top-loading automatic, but never knew anyone who actually had one. I was particularly taken with the pushbutton KitchenAid and the 1960 Frigidaire.

All your hard work paid off; it's a beautiful (and wonderfully staged) collection!

Absolutely fantastic work Leon!!!

I am SOOOO jealous of your Hoover 585. If you look on my automaticwasher profile written in ~ 2004 that this was my dream machine. I remember seeing it in 1970 when 6 years old in an appliance store in Chatswood NSW when my parents bought a 535. I could even tell you where it was in the lay out of the store. Dad bought the Hoover because he said a Hoover twintub had given them very good service. In fact I think that a Whirlpool, Simpson or Wilknsservis bought at the same time would on average have given better and longer service. It lasted approx 9 years.

You deserve to be very proud of your application and discipline.

Wow incredible achievement

It was just over two years ago that I was there and the building hadn’t been constructed at all.

This is probably the most impressive appliance museum done to date and so little time.

Can’t wait to visit again, your parents look great, tell them hello for me. They must be very proud to have the best museum of appliances in Australia right at their own backyard.

Now how can you get that Maytag A-906 washer in avocado over here?

To us in the US, she is NOT “just another machine”...

In fact, how did she get way over there????!!!!

It was an amazing evening Leon and having seen it grow, I know how much work its taken to turn it into the showpiece that it is today.

It is totally amazing on so many levels. Anyone who gets the chance to travel, really should come and see it.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Leon, you should be proud of what you've accomplished - building a beautiful collection AND putting together the perfect space for it all!

A great mix of local machines to you, and many from across the pond (and even Iowa!).

I hope someday to stop by for a visit.

Ben

That is a wonderful collection Leon, congratulations on the new home for them! Are you using a voltage converter for the American washers?

Love your collection of small appliances too, especially that row of Kenwood mixers!

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for your kind words and comments, much appreciated.

A couple of questions answered:

Chris: it IS a Leonard by Fisher & Paykel: imported from New Zealand.

Two Stampco's came from a deceased estate. Needs a little work: specifically with the Fluid Drive.

Dave: the 906 is a hybrid: a genuine 906 control panel I got from Kevin in LA, the top and front cover from John Lefever. It's really an A512 with a 120V 2 speed Maytag motor, again sent over by John.

Cheers

Leon

I had to stop viewing your pics of your collection, and wipe the drool off my computer desk. What a stunning collection. Some familiar machines, and some not familiar. would love to see it someday in person. Of course I would have to bring a few dirty items, to test drive a machine or two. LOL

Congratulations on such an impressive collection! I’m sure it was a labor of love, but still a lot of hard work to get these beautiful machines in such great condition. Thanks for sharing it here for all of us to enjoy.

Wow!

too cool! I watched "Ladies in black" on Amazon Prime last week. It is set in Sydney in 1959. It showcased many mid century Aussie-American products. Am I wrong in presuming that your middle class was more in tune with Canada the USA then also because while your nation fought in WW2 alongside us, and the UK, but only they had war on their own soil, and took longer to rebuild and recover form it?
With a second building next to it of Holdens, Leylands, Chryslers, and Fords, you'd have a huge tourist attraction......

Took another gander, more incredible machines!

The Superba Kitchen Aid, which could go back to when Almond was just introduced... That all-push button Kitchen Aid washer with the digital read-out display... And even the relatively plain-Jane, but fairly deluxe Monkey Wards...

All still-very spectacular museum items...!

Beautiful

Hi Leon,

Wonderful! I recognise the edge of an 80's/90's Hoover in #1 ... and am pretty sure that's a shelf of Mistral Gyromatic fans in #8.

I'm one of the lucky people who'd love to see the collection ... as I'm only 2 hours away in Melbourne!

Seriously, what are your opening hours? :-)

Nick
