Whirlpool Thin Twin - Please help me decide what to do 		[Down to Last]

Guys I have a dilemma on my hands.

A couple of months ago i finally put my hands on a Whirlpool Thin Twin 24 inch with a gas dryer.
It was ridiculously cheap, I think less than $50 if i'm not mistaken. I really don't remember.

Overall it looks OK, The dryer doesn't have the burn marks or the horrible blue shade.

The washer had seen better days and I still need to open it to clean (i can imagine it's nasty inside)

However, recently I've been noticing that scary "roller coaster climbing noise" when it starts spinning. Sometimes (happened twice) it doesn't do the neutral drain and in one occasion several weeks the pause wasn't enough to engage the spin. (I had to stop and start again).

Ok, I know the transmission is starting to say "Adiós".



Parallel to that, I discovered a store in Glendale that is going out of business and guess what they have exactly the same model in their show room, never used, brand new and for only $350, delivery included.

As I have no idea how much it would cost to repair (I never had to buy a transmission for a thin twin before) what would be worth doing? Fix it or send it to the craigs-crusher-list and grab a new one?

Hello there,
If you really like the Thin Twin and the price is right for you, get the new one. And you can sell the old one for $50.
Personally I like the KitchenAid version of the Thin Twin and if I saw a new one for a good price I'd scoop it up (even though I don't need it).

WP Built 24" TTs

$350 for an unused gas one is a steal, WP stoped building the 24" TT in gas 2 years ago [ stupid decision ] so the only 24" wide laundry you can buy in the US now is the terrible GE built TL stack.

 

 Hi Michael, We have a brand new KA 24" gas stack thanks to Nick in Minnesota at our museum, while the KA version is unique the only real difference is the pretty blue agitator and white tub and a porcelain coated top and lid.

John, Whirlpool also has that RIDICULOUS Chinese POS that is basically a Panda washer with a thin twin dryer.

When I saw that, the only thing I could say was "Bizarre".
