In a whirlpool dishwasher manual it says that it raises the wash and rinse temps. It also says it adds 0-3 gal of water. When would that water be added? Does it add another rinse? Thanks.

I can tell you on my KitchenAid Clone Kenmore Elite, when Sanitize rinse is selected, it does a prewash, main wash, two post wash rinses and final rinse heated to 155+.  That's on Auto Wash, normal, and Pots & Pans.  Sani Rinse option raises main wash temp to either 130 or 140.  Ordinary cycle sequence is prewash, main wash, and two final rinses.  If heavy soil is sensed on Normal or Auto Wash, mine will have the 3 post wash rinses.

Gotcha. Sounds like it adds at least one extra rinse to make sure that in the final rinse, the water is crystal clear.
