My wife and I purchased this washer from Lowes in May 2018. If you use it according to the use and care booklet it cleans well. In early December 2019 it has started to make an intermitting loud SCREECHING sound when it is ramping up to spin. Sounds like rusted metal against metal. The lid has also started to remained locked after the cycle has finished. I have to push the start/stop button to get it unlocked. Once again its intermitting.

I'm afraid the bearings are about shot. From I have read this is common with this model washer. I did not purchase a extended warranty. The one year warranty expired May 2019.

Do you think if I called Whirlpool and explain this washer is less than 2 years old they might listen to my dilemma and offer a warranty repair? I don't need to be asking Santa for a new washer!

Any advice would be helpful.

Many thanks in advance! David

Call them

I have a Maytag fridge that wouldn't defrost 2 months after the warranty expired. I had it repaired by the people I bought it from. Charged me $192 for the repair. I didn't think that was right so I talked to a rep using the chat portal on their site. It's faster and more accurate. They told me to e-mail a copy of the bill from the repair people and reimbursed me the full amount. The faulty part was an ongoing issue. They did not have to do this but they did because I said I would be buying some other appliance and it too would be a Maytag. As a point of interest my 21 year old Inglis direct drive just did its usual Saturday morning wash. Hydro is cheapest on the weekend. Full load: 2 queen sized sheets, 3 pillow cases, 5 large towels and a queen wool stuffed mattress cover. 40 minutes, no problems. It's been doing this without issue for 21 years. 2nd load just finishing, same amount.

Inglis

No, it's just the cheapest model from 1998. No name except Inglis- commercial. I think I paid around $650 for it which is equivalent to $960 in 2019 dollars. I guest it wasn't that cheap but it's been worth it. Never a service call but it won't work on permanent press cycle. I can live without that, have been for 14 years.

VMW Cabrio washplate HE washer.Bearings damaged by failed main seal will make a roaring sound-screeching might be belt slipping?belt is a stretch type with no adjustment. None of my VMW washers has made a screeching sound or had evidence of belt slippage though...
