I've been wanting an A806 for quite some time. The old A407 has been hanging in there doing a great job considering its wear. While searching for old Mercedes diesels in Marketplace these came across my feed. The guy said his mom bought them new in 1974. The washer has my favorite Mallory timer in it. His mom died 2 years ago and the condo was empty since and was getting sold Monday and if I wanted them for $100.00 they had to go NOW. So I headed over. He said they had little use because it was just her alone since 1981 and it shows. I was able to test them before disconnecting them and they worked perfect. The Washer is an HA806 and dryer HDE806. What is the H for? Here's a few pics. They need wiping down. Is he right about the year?

The "H" is for the Harvest Gold color.  And yes, correct about the year.

Top-of-the-line! Congratulations. Thank God for little old ladies who take good care of their laundry equipment. Looking forward to photos of the control panels.

Congratulations!

As stated, this helps balance the scales against the machines you find with huge dents in the porcelain wash basket. You look at them and wonder, "How the hell did they do that?"

I remember the joy with which I greeted each long awaited appliance and am happy for you.

Another great thing is that this washer will probably have the delayed bleach injection system.

Thanks everyone! Someone on an old engine website I'm on said he had these years ago and the washer had the FQ motor and it always gave him trouble. Does mine have that and what problems are the 806 known for?

Here are some pics of the pair of 806's I got early in the week. They were stored in my landlords garage all week while I was biting my nails no mice took residence. Hand a friend come over and we moved them into my apartment to the storage/comp room. Now at least if I want to service them I can.

Wow John!  That tub sparkles like brand new!

If you're going to have a vintage Maytag, this is the model to own, and you got yourself an exceptional one.

Congrats on saving a great looking set!

Still amazes me how many mid 70's Maytags are still out chugging along...

Did some of these have the chrome topped lint filter? If so I would like to find one to jazz this up a bit.

The early 806 and 906 machines had lint filters with stainless steel tops, and they do look nice. I don’t recall what year they discontinued them, but once in a great while one will turn up on eBay. That’s where I found the one I installed on my parents 806.

The stainless lint filter was discontinued in July/August of 1972.

Lots of great info there. I suppose if I can find a nice one cheap I would get it.
