Hey gang! A while back I picked up a few generic laundry parts catalogs from Master Publications. Within one of the catalogs was a odd section simply called, "Photographs" from a 1960 publication.
It was 18 pages of a few major brands with some pictures of each washer made by that brand, by year. Some of the featured brands included all washers made from 1950 - 1959 (Frigidaire as an example) while others was a hodge-podge colleciton of sorts. The grouping that caught my interest was two pages of washers for Philco-Bendix, featuring a listing of Economat washers, but amazingly enough a listing of Gyromatic washers! For the longest time there were hints that 1958 model Gyromatics were made, through various Philco parts catalogs from the 60's as well as some brochure art on various 1958 Philco-Bendix advertisement, but no actual pictures of these machines. Here's the sheet from that strange Photographs section for the Gyromatics. I've updated the scan to include the MFG years (based on an Avco quick parts reference guide), as well as pictures of the originally missing 1955 and 1956 models. Time to add the 1958 W-487N to my dream machine list! Anyone out there have one of these final gyros? In '59 Philco dropped the Gyromatic and ball point Dexter/Philco top loaders and introduced the revised and slimmed down Duomatic, along with the Automagic top loaders. Ben

Re the 1958s: Interesting! Shades of the time an Amana front-loader was teased with pamphlets, but aside from some test machines, few-to-none were ever spotted in the wild. Thanks for taking the time to piece together this Gyromatic history, Ben.

![]() Very cool Ben, thanks for sharing this information, I always thought it a shame that there were norther popular FL washers other than Westinghouse in the US.
What color do you want your new W-487N in Ben ? And do you want the matching Super Fast 33,000 BTU gas dryer or the matching 9000 watt electric dryer ? to go with that new washer.
John E. in St Paul has the Super fast gas dryer that Chuck Diehl found years ago in Baltimore never used. He has been using it for years.

John - beggars can’t be choosers; I’d be happy with white (or rust and white by now)but wouldn’t turn down sunny yellow or turquoise either. ;) And the matching gas dryer, please!
Eugene - do you recall where you saw the Amana badged Bendix information? The idea of combining Iowa roots with South Bend manufacturing sounds like a dream! Ben |

Ben- Apologies for the confusion, but there was no Bendix connection with the Amana reference—don’t remember the year this happened, so can’t confirm whether it was when Raytheon made Amana or if Alliance had come into the picture. The connection was that, as with the ‘58 Gyromatics, we saw pamphlets/advertising about the machine, but few made it to sales floor for whatever reason.
