Hello, the first machine I remember as a kid was a Servis Superheat wringer washer. Mum had it up to late 1972 when the AEG Princess automatic took over, it was passed on to my aunt, a farmer's wife who found it great for mixing powdered milk replacer for young calves. The gearbox seized and Dad took out the motor with a view to making a bench grinder, the motor was made by British Thomson-Houston, a noble engineering firm in its day. Mums machine was cream with a red top cover and front door. I would love to see a video and detailed pics of one of these, especially under the tub, showing the working motor and transmission. I spotted a Superheat on the 'Darling Buds of May' - a British comedy featuring David Jason from the early 90's - it sat in the corner of the kitchen of Charley and Mariette's rented bungalow cottage. My other half finds this nerdiness for detail amusing - especially when I pointed out the Wylex rewireable fuse box in Inspector Thursday's hallway on 'Endeavour'

Hi Peter,
There is one episode of Darling Buds of May when you see Marriette using her model M / MK42 Servis Superheat. I have had a few over the years, just have the 2 now - the same one as Mariette & and the restyled Superheat which launched in 1958. Cheers Keith |

Thanks for the replies and the vids - as a 6/7 year old kid, I remember using a kitchen chair to stand on so I could see the wash action! Looking at the last reply from Keymatic, my mums old machine was just like the white & red one (no.4), except the white was a cream colour. Interestingly, the square blue/white model in the same pic (no.1) was what my aunt replaced it with when the gearbox gave up in early 1978. I stayed with her for two weeks in the summer of 78 when I was 12, loved the freedom of the dairy farm and the fun with my numerous boisterous cousins back there. I remember filling and emptying her new Servis during that holiday and helping with the wash. Monday was always dedicated wash day in that busy farmhouse. Thanks for the memories. Another relation had an all-white Superheat with interestingly, a cover which slipped over the top of the machine and had a Formica type top, to serve as an extra work surface in the kitchen. It was stashed in the corner of their garage for years next to an old Burco Tumblair - I contacted my cousin about it but unfortunately, they did a garage clearout about 2 years ago.

Hi all. Guardsman Red is particularly smart - echoing Austin's comment, Ian - your matched Supertwin and Superheat look wonderful. I've attached an advert from 1956, showing the colourful Superheat range. Paul

Hey there. I have a Servis Superheat. Bought it from Ebay about 5 years ago. It works perfectly. A great machine, built to last.I repainted it though, in a black and white colour scheme.

Hi Johnny. Nice to see that, even after all the years, people are still experimenting with the colour schemes. Looks good! Paul |
