Sigh. I am original builder and owner of my 1992/3 home. My original late 1992 early 1993 Kitchenaid Superba Whisper Quit Scrub dishwasher has a seized motor shaft. DW worked fine one day and didn't the next. I'm perplexed on whether to purchase a new Miele 8130 that appears to have similar run duration program times in the 50 to 82 minute range as as the Hobart designed KA has.
Q. Any other DWs to consider?
Q. Repair the teeny 1/8 x 3/16" oval rust hole in sump?
I installed a spare motor/pump assembly but the tub leaked afterwards as I found a teeny 1/8" x 3/16" oval rust hole at 6 o'clock high on the vertical portion of the sump just below where the top of the outer rubber pump gasket sits. I noticed the original rubber pump gasket had some rust deposits around 1/3 the circumference up high. I recall years ago the DW seeped for some weeks/months but I placed a pie pan underneath which allowed the leakage to evaporate off. After a season or so I no longer notice the leak. I suppose that was what eventually killed the pump a few years later?
Anyway, in addition to a formerly perfectly maintained (bubble bandit detergent) and working KUDS230Y0 with modern Stainless panel added, I have 4 spare racks, 2 spare pump/motor assemblies, and lots of spare parts off two lesser but same vintage KA machines I was going to use to support this machine.
I suppose my questions to this group are as follows:
1. If I purchase new, which brands/models recommended for similar quality wash, good drying and long lasting? (cost not really a concern).
2. Should I attempt to repair the teeny rust hole in sump? w/Por-15 and fiberglass?
3. Should I scrap the tub and sell all its and other spare parts on eBay?
4. Anyone here interested in all or some of the parts mentioned?
5. Anyone here interested in the entire unit as a restoration project (tiny rust hole)?
I'm saddened at my predicament. This is an exceptionally clean machine for its age and other than the teeny rust hole is working nicely with newer (2013) inlet valve and newer (early 2000s) 8-button switch and obviously newer racks plus all spares above.
The Miele's I've researched appear to run $1700 for a 2-3hr machine and $3200 for a similar 0.9-1.5hr machine.
