About 10 years ago, I got fed up servicing the "yet another cheap import electronic dishwasher" that was in my then current home. A friend had this old KitchenAid (which I later learned was a KDI-17) in the house they were renting, and just raved about how fast it was and how clean it got everything. So, after some research (a significant part of which was from this excellent site) I started the hunt and after some weeks came across this KDS-21 listed for $20 on Craigslist about 100 miles from me.

So, we loaded the kids in the Van, promised them a stop at IKEA, and got on the road. The unit was offered by an older German couple - posted on CL and coordinated by his daughter - who turned out to be just the nicest guy. The unit had been in the garage for some months after a kitchen renovation and all new appliances installed. It had been in the house since he and his wife purchased the home in the 80s, and he felt it was too good a unit to go to the junk pile, and was very gratified that I was so pleased and to get it, and recognized it's value. His wife kept giving our kids Hershey's Kisses leftover from Christmas, so they were almost willing to forgive me for the long ride.

Over the years, I maintained the machine, replaced racking, replaced the heater/blower assembly, fill valve, and various other minor parts. I must have gotten one of the last NOS wash arm supports on ebay, around 2012 I think. I took it with to a new house in 2016, and learned that when you are trying to sell a house with an empty dishwasher-sized hole in the kitchen, absolutely EVERYBODY comments on it.

Fast forward to now. I've recently relocated to Houston. I uninstalled and moved the KDS21 with me, fully expecting to install it in home #3. But, really, I think I'm ready to get off the "vintage dishwasher" bus for now.

Sooooo.......

Anybody in the Houston area want this old DW? If you can come get it, it's yours free with my blessing. I'd hate to see it get junked, and I just don't have the energy to part it out. I figure this site is the best place to find someone who's looking and knows what they're getting into.

If no takers, it's going to get Freecycled.

Great Dishwasher

My mom had the Monterrey version of this machine. I would love to have it but don't have a way to get it to Dallas.
