guy at work bought a 2014 Ford explorer used, drove it 900 miles, and the transmission crapped out-black fluid, lots of metal debris in the fluid. The dealer and his insurance Co.are now hashing out who will cover the repair...:)Are these vehicles known for early tranny failure?

I had to get the trans replaced in my '95 Explorer at between 150,000 & 200,000 miles. It then lasted until it began having steering problems at 400,000.

I don't know about the '14 models.

That may not be an early failure, how was this truck treated and was it ever serviced ?
