I'm interested in buying a GE potbelly percolator, but I'm confused by the model numbers. Does anyone know which ones are older? I notice a lot of the model numbers have the letter P in them with a number before and after the letter. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the one?

Is this the percolator you're referring to?  It looks like the Model number is 48P41 on mine.

Make Sure You Buy the One With The Black Handle & Base. That is Chrome Outside and Stainless Steel Inside.  The one with the brown handle is chrome-plated copper inside and out. Rarely do you find the plating in great condition.

Interesting about the materials

Tom, You are exactly right. I have a potbelly I'm planning to list on eBay. It has the brown handle and a beautiful brown cloth cord to match, but a closer looks reveals the copper showing through the chrome on the inside. The Sunbeam C30s are chrome plated copper, and I find that they do a fantastic job of evenly heating the coffee, but they must have a much thicker interior plating.

So, it's available if there are any pros to having one with the worn interior finish.

Thank you

Thank you all so much for the advise. I will search for a black handled one with the black base. :-) If I can't find one (that I can afford) do you have any suggestions for other brands/models of percolators?

Sunbeam

I don't think you can go wrong with a Sunbeam. They made some beautiful styles over the years. If you really love that pot belly look, you might try a Saladmaster or Jet-o-Matic (same pot). I've never used one for anything more than testing before sale, but they are extremely popular. All of the Saladmaster products I've handled seem to be excellent quality.

The Garrison's, who lived around the corner when I was a kid, had one of the GE potbelly coffemakers. It usually sat on a big round oak table in their kitchen.
