Well we sold our home in Massachusetts and moved south to Florida. I left behind my front load washers and bought a Whirlpool WTW4816FW2 washer and a Whirlpool WED49STBW1 dryer. Before I installed the washer , I removed the water flow restrictor devices in the water valves because having the water trickle into the wash basket wasnot going to happen for me. since I did that the washer fills fast. One thing though that kinda irked me was that when using the Normal cycle, the Deep Fill option does not work...its all Auto Sense , which in my opinion does fill with enough water. I found that by using the SuperWash cycle this washer cleans quite well for a top loader. Overall I am quite happy with it. The washer is very quiet during agitation portions. One thing though, during spin, the top of the washer does vibrate since the whole wash system is suspended by rods from the top.
The dryer is very good and dries loads wrinkle free and is spot on for accuracy in drying. I forgot how nice these dryers perform. Here are a few pics...

A Whole Lot of Shaking going on....

Nice set....the agitator models seem to be the better of the bunch...good luck with them....

the excess movement and shaking is part of the build between flimsy materials and light weight....

if you recall back to belt drive Whirlys and Kenmores.....they too used a rod from top suspension....AND they were heavy machines that could hold their own....it would take a lot to have one walk across the floor...

I would even have to say the direct drives weigh roughly half of the belt drive series...

Misoriented photos are related to how a phone was oriented when taking them.  If you see them wrong in the post preview then they'll be wrong when the post is committed.

Some/most phones have photo editing functions to rotate them.  Or save them to your computer and rotate them there with editing software before posting.

Fill flow restrictors

Mike, how do you remove the fill flow restrictors? Also, does the computer ever send an error and shut the water off do to the increased flow rate? I thought I read one time that the washer "thinks" there is a fill valve failure.

most times you can pull the screens out of the valve, reach in and pull out the restrictors....

check too that both openings in the back are the same size....as with SQ, the hot side was smaller, nothing a drill can't fix, most times you can just use the bit by hand and bore out the correct size...now and equal 50/50 mix...

Thanks Glenn for fixing the pics...I tried everything I could think of to fix those pics but it wouldn't work for me on my end. I took the pics with my iPad and never have an issue with upside down pics until I made this post.

The flow restrictors are where the hoses connect. They are behind the water screens and I pried those out and found the restrictors behind the screens. I took a flat screwdriver and pried them out, put the filter screens back in and then attached the hoses and I was off and running. So far the washer works perfectly fine without them. The washer takes about 3 to 5 mins tops to fill to the top of the wash basket. Not 15+ mins with the restrictors in and it rinses better in my opinion.

Good you removed the restrictors. Ponder this--that slow fill rate for a deep wash water level for a hot or warm water fill and the house having an electric water heater. I wonder how long and how many times the heater comes on during that much elongated fill. Would drive me nuts. One thing I can say I like about the SQ TLers--fast fill rates.

Well with the faster fill that I have going on the washer fills in about 4 mins to the very top row of holes when Deep Fill is selected. Now here is something that I was not expecting , well there are multiple things not expecting on this washer...the Normal cycle defaults to the Auto Fill no matter if Deep Fill is selected. That cycle is also stingy with water temps and it will add just so much hot water then the rest is cold. Granted that our water in FL is not anywhere near the cold water that I had back in Mass. The water coming out off the tap is a balmy 72F for cold water. My water heater is set at 140F. The Normal cycle is also cheap when it comes to using water for rinsing ...no spray rinsing here before the first spin after wash and no spray rinse after the deep rinse. If all the cycles acted like this I think that this washer would be returned. But, when I use the SuperWash cycle this washer is completely different animal. It will default to Deep Fill and use water temps straight from the tap, no dumbing down of water temps here, so a hot wash temp is just that, tap hot. Same with warm water as well. Seems like a 50/50 mix here and the water temp is a nice and toasty 100F. This cycle also gives a nice spray rinse before the first spin to wash off any suds on top of the load after the drain portion. Then the washer will spin for a bit then go into deep rinse and fill right to the top row of holes in the wash basket. Half way thru the rinse cycle the washer will add even more water to the rim of the wash basket. Deep rinse will last about 10 mins, then drain and into spin it goes for about 4 mins , it will slow down and spray rinse the load again, then go into high speed spin at 700 rpms. Now the clothes emerging out of the washer are no where near how damp dry a front loader would leave them. I think that if Whirlpool put the fully perforated wash basket into their machines and got rid of the spiral hole pattern , then extraction would be better in my opinion.
Washability with that dual action agitator is well not what a direct drive washer would give. I find that some items like socks hold onto grime rather than give it up. Plus some stains this washer struggles with where my Electrolux washer would have vanquished with no issues. So I had on hand the 5 vane Super Surgilator and that made a world of difference in washability.
The dryer I am liking very much and I am liking the fact that most items coming out of the dryer does not need any ironing. This dryer also keeps up with the washer, load for load. Overall I am happy with them. So far.
