Are you stuck having to buy a replacement from Lowe's? If not, the machine that checks all of the boxes for you would be a Speed Queen if you can find a used one. They have plain old knobs, dials and settings like washers of old. Just steer clear of the useless Speed Queen models from a year or two ago that, even though they may look the same, were great at swirling but entirely incapable of cleaning. Others here can provide model numbers to look for and/or avoid.
Another option would be an older, low mileage Whirlpool or Kenmore toploader. They're reliable and parts are readily available if anything would need fixing down the road. |

I bought my Roper RTW4516FW from Lowes’ 2 years ago this month. It’s a basic, no frills BOL TL washing machine. I’ve been very pleased with it and had no complaints or problems thus far.
I almost always us the Regular/Normal cycle with Hot water and Auto sense for the water level and each load is done in 34 mins flat. This cycle does use a spray rinse and at first I was hesitant to try it, but thought well if I don’t like it I just won’t use it again. Personally, I feel that it rinses thoroughly with the spray rinse, no evidence of detergent left and this is using Original Gain liquid. With the auto sense it fills to just over the top of the load, allowing for the the load compressing as it is wet during the fill. It’s not a water waster, but it fills with an adequate amount of water to clean well. If I use the Deep Fill option it fills right to the top and the turn over is just like a TL if old, the rinse is also deep fill. This increases the time to about 60-70 mins. and I seldom use it. I can wash kingsize bedspreads, blankets and comforters with no problem on the Bulky Cycle. And this washer always spins and has only gone out of balance once and that was my fault for washing the rubber tub mat along with the heavy bathmat and shower curtain. It’s an inexpensive washer, so it may not last forever, but I’m gonna enjoy it while it lasts. I also like that it has a porcelain tub instead of SS. Take a look at the many You Tube videos on this machine and its “sister ship” the Amana NTW4516, they are both the same, except for the color of the lettering on the control panel. Good Luck and I HTH. Eddie CLICK HERE TO GO TO ea56's LINK |

The LSR7233BW0 would been the best choice ... a simple Whirlpool direct-drive machine. You bought it from that local repair shop? Or bought elsewhere, and they did the $290 fix when it went wonky? Sounds like they're not much competent. The MVWC415EW0 is what's known as Whirlpool's VMW (Vertical Modular Washer) design, which replaced the direct-drive design in 2010. All current Whirlpool toploaders (and their family brands Maytag, Amana, Roper, etc.) are of this design. There are belt-drive (lower end) and direct-drive (aka VMAX, which is different than the LSR7233BW0 mechanicals) versions of the VMW design. The VMW models that others have mentioned above ... NTW4516 and RTW4516FW ... are simpler and more "old-style" than MVWC415EW0. (Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006, if you're not aware.) |

Keep in mind that Roper, Maytag ,Amana, Kitchenaid & Jenn-Aire are all now Whirlpool made. THey can differ sometimes in features and construction but may share some or a lot of components. If Lowes doesn't have the particular name/model on the floor that you're thinking of they can usually order it.

The Speed Queen models that begin with "TR" are the ones to be avoided. They were rated dead last by Consumer Reports, scoring a measly 31 out of 100 points, which may have been the worst score in CR's history of evaluating washing machines. Speed Queen's "revolutionary" new washing system was an epic fail, and after a bit of belligerent stonewalling by SQ, their tried and true design was revived based on an avalanche of complaints, returns, and bad reviews about the TR series machines.
I agree that a brand new SQ machine is an expensive item, which is why I suggested you find a used one manufactured in 2017 or earlier, which I'm pretty sure would have a model number that begins with "AWN." The "TC" series is the latest one, so even a used one of those would likely be expensive.
As was stated further up, a Whirlpool-sourced top load machine (includes Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag -- not sure about Amana or Estate) from 2010 or earlier is another good bet. You don't have to go back as far as the 1990s, but if you did, their basic design would be the same. Others here will have to provide model numbers for those.
There is no question that a Newton-built Maytag top-loader would be dependable -- that was Maytag's catch word -- if you can find one, but tub capacity will be smaller than a Whirlpool or Speed Queen even on Maytag's larger tub models.
There are lots of threads and profiles here with pictures of washers that would be good choices for you. I don't know what the search options are like for non-upgraded members, though. |

Is a Speed Queen TC5 series.
Never buy a used appliance from a shop that does not offer at least a 1 year parts and labor in home warranty, and from a shop that has a good reputation for service.
If you need to go used you are better taking your chances on a used appliance directly from someone selling it directly. Do try to figure out why they are really selling the used machine, test it out if you can.
