I've never seen a Maytag with this console before. Was it a builders special? It reminds me of some of the coin-op washers I've seen in laundry mats.

What is above the dial? Is it a pilot light or a push to start button? A pilot light seems unlikely in such a BOL model.

This was more for the OPL (think beauty shop or veterinarian) situation, where simplicity was important. There may well have been a pilot light (noisy environment to show the load was done).

I remember seeing this model when I worked at the store that was a Maytag dealer, in the Summer of '77. While it was not on display, they usually kept a few in the warehouse. They must have actually sold better than the fancy models (806), as those were not stocked. I was told the DE90 was often sold to people who were buying or had wringer washers.
