Mostly dishwashers and garbage disposals. Off the top of my head:

The Incredible Shrinking Woman: Lily Tomlin falls into the garbage disposal
The War of the Roses: Kathleen Turner loads a Jenn Air reverse rack and uses a disposal
Ordinary People: Mary Tyler Moore uses a disposal
The Last Married Couple in America: Natalie Wood loads a KDS-18
The Courtship of Eddie's Father: A Frigidaire spin tube gets loaded
Mirror Mirror: Karen Black loses her hand in a disposal
The Ice Storm: Joan Allen loads a KDI-15
Bachelor In Paradise: Bob Hope loses a battle with the disposal
Ghost in the Machine: A kid sticks his hand in the disposal and later the dishwasher kills the babysitter
Drop Dead Fred: Marsha Mason loads a Whirlpool dishwasher

Any others to add?

In Alfred Hitchcock's, "The Birds" (1963), Lydia Brenner (Jessica Tandy) loads a built-in dishwasher (a Whirlpool??)

In "Bye Bye Byrdie (1963) Mama Mae Peterson (Maureen Stapleton) tries to asphyxiate herself in the oven of a range, only to have Paul Lynde inform her, "It's electric."

Norman Pfiffer (Jerry Lewis) is attempting to repair a Hoover Convertible vacuum cleaner while a chagrinned Agnes Moorehead watches. the setting is in the appliance department of the department store Norman is working at. In the background are many home appliances (washers, dryers, disposals, etc.) including a row of beautiful RCA Whirlpool portable dishwashers.

Natalie Wood stuck her head into a gas oven in "Inside Daisy Clover."  I was a a teenager when I saw it and couldn't tell you anything about its brand or age, but I suspect it would have been an old stove for its day.

Harriet Hillard aka Harriet Nelson of 1950’s TV “Ozzie and Harriet”, mom of Ricky and David Nelson,  cooks for Randolph Scott on  what appears to be a brand new electric stove, I believe it was a GE in she and her sisters (Ginger Rogers) tricked out San Francisco apartment.

BTW this is a pretty good 30’s RKO dancing musical with Fred Astaire also in the cast and Lucille Ball has a bit part too.

And on the “Ozzie and Harriet Show” their sponsor was Hotpoint and her kitchen had all Hotpoint appliances and she also did many of the Hotpoint commercials as well.

Here's a cringe-inducing film for us laundry nerds:

seedub's profile picture
The scene in "The Accidental Tourist (1988)" where William Hurt's character gets a load of wash going in a Whirlpool Imperial (looks to be a 1986 model), then starts up the basement stairs. As he's going, the washer shifts into spin-dry, goes out of balance, bangs loudly, *AND A BUZZER SOUNDS*. This freaks out his dog, who trips up our hero, causing him to topple down the stairs leaving him laid up with an injury so that he's not able to do his job writing travel guides.

Um...what now? Possibly I'm wrong, but I never knew Whirlpools to have OOB buzzers.

One of the sound engineers apparently went home and recorded their Kenmore and used that in the soundtrack, I suppose? It's as nerve wracking for me as those '70s TV shows where we hear the same Chrysler starter motor canned sound effect in any scene where a car engine is being cranked, regardless of the car's manufacture.

No WP old-style belt-drives had OOB switches far as I know, unless maybe very early 1950s.  1986 is at the tail-end of production.

Whirlpool direct-drive Catalyst has an OOB because of the catalyst spin treatment, but no other WP or KA DD model that I'm aware.  I recall mention that some KM direct-drive models (other than the Catalyst) had OOBs.

The washer and dryer in the basement of Home Alone was a Frigidaire, actually all the appliances in the house were Frigidaire. In Home Alone 2 the house under renovation had a Maytag center dial washer in the basement. In the movie Uncle Buck they had a Kitchen Aid washer and dryer. The movie The Birdcage there was a beautiful Coldspot bottom freezer refrigerator and there was also a nice vintage Kenmore washer and dryer. The movie She Devil, RoseAnn was cooking in a Caloric Eye Level gas range and later blew up the house by putting iron and other things in her copper tone 1967 GE filter Flo washer, the same movie later shows Meryl Streep breaking her nail closing the lid of a Hotpoint rim flow washer.

Westinghouse Laundromat's

reactor's profile picture
EuGene, lest we not forget the Tappan Fabulous 400, also making an appearance in "The Parent Trap." I didn't mention these as they weren't being used in the movie. But it and the dishwasher are, indeed, beautiful pieces of equipment (as is Maureen O'Hara, as well.)

Oddly, Mitch also has a built-it cook top in addition to the Tappan range. Maggie (Maureen O'Hara) is making Irish Stew, for Mitch (Brian Keith) on it.

I doubt if there are any sci fi buffs on this site so you may not have seen the classic "B" science fiction film. "The Magnetic Monster," starring Richard Carlson and Jean Byron (Patty Duke's TV mom.)

It also stars a whole row of brand new 1952/53 model Westinghouse Laundromats.

A scientist, in his laboratory located on the second floor over a hardware store, magnetizes the entire store below and the doors of the Westinghouse machines keep opening and closing on their own. You can also see many small appliances, of the day, (percolators, skillets) in the hardware store.

(BTW, Despite the silly title, this is a very well done film. You won't leave your chair in the last 15 minutes!)

This morning, I saw the Dennis the Menace episode 18 from season 4 in 1963 where the pair of late 50s WPs were removed and replaced with one of those O'Keefe & Merritt monster no spin combos in the kitchen.  It was only because of that shot of the combo that I did not change the channel immediately.  That series must have had a set decorator from Eastern Europe; the rooms were awful in both the Mitchell and Wilson homes and the kid's voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Father Knows Best Home For Christmas 1977 Reunion Movie

I stumbled onto these holiday movies on you tube. I remembered this because it has, at 40 minutes, the Lady Kenmore combo. At 56 minutes there is what looks like a rainbow flag in the attic and at 1:08:39 there are more glimpses of the combo. I gave the link to the show and the places you can fast forward to if you care. I remember watching this in 1977, but had forgotten all of the shmaltz, histrionics, unnecessary plot twists and complications and the way the little girls screamed every time they opened their mouths.  In 1977, I still wished for a combo, but my wishes were recorded and brought to fruition a few years later.

Betty White was a "b" in it. She sort of reversed the slutty role with Blanche in Golden girls. Oddly Sue Ann Niven could could, Betty White said in the game show with her husband she wasn't very good. Her in laws came for dinner, and all she knew how to fix was ham.
The movie Bringing down the house gave her another rude role as the neighbor lady.
She said in a scene "I saw negro", and another asked Georgie who cut his hair. "You look like a fag."

In the British film, My Beautiful Launderette, an English  guy and his Pakistani partner remodel an old coin laundry and take sledge hammers to commercial Frigidaire three ring agitator washers. We were the only people who groaned loudly when the hammers crashed needlessly into the Frigidaire washers.

There was an AMP on the service porch of the Hudson Sisters' house in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

Father Knows Best had both a complete Westinghouse kitchen and laundry followed by Bendix/Crosley appliances.

In Batteries Not Included, Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy's apartment has a Maytag wringer washer and a mid-late 60s Frigidaire gas dryer.

On My Three Sons, they had an RCI-61  and the most comically undersized refrigerator for a family with 5 men along with a Frigidaire Deluxe washer and dryer in the laundry room. One time a wheel rolled out of the room and into the kitchen.

Bachelor Father with John Forsythe and Noreen Corcoran, Ssster of Kevin Corcoran in Disney films,  had a gas kitchen and later a Hotpoint kitchen with the double wall ovens featuring one of the early microwave ovens. for Peter to use. "Niece Kelly, I zapped dinner for you." Uncle Bentley also drove a beautiful Chrysler convertible.

Tom,

yeah, My beautiful Laundrette was great! In the British version of "Shameless" series, a Pakistani's wife is a store owner near ther housing estate where his slightly younger boyfriend lives. His older sister does laundry, and kicks the washer to get it to spin. Their dad is a gyro check drunk on the govt. dole. Her boyfriend buy's them a new washer, and dad gets angry when she shrank his shirt in boil wash.
The store managers wife catches them in the act in the stock room, and threatens him with divorce and poverty if he doesn't break it off.

Thanks for posting that episode!  That show was one of the great comedy lineup shows that CBS had in the early 1970's and was a terrific combination of talented people.  I just love Betty White's character - she was just such a B*tch and, as noted above, the total opposite of her later character in TGG.  All of the characters had great timing and could really get the laughs.

In case you didn't know, the premise of the film is that Annabel, a teenage girl, swaps bodies with her Mother, Ellen. Ellen has to cope with Annabel's day at school and Annabel is responsible for everything at home that Ellen would usually deal with.

Annabel, in the body of Ellen, tries to do the laundry but stuffs *everything* into the washer, chucks loads of detergent in and switches it on. She goes off to watch TV and a short while later hears the washing machine banging and clattering. She runs into the laundry room and the machine is going nuts! It then floods the laundry room just as the housekeeper, Mrs. Schmauss, arrives to give her scathing opinion on what has happened.

Gremlins, the mother forces a gremlin into the microwave and nukes it, she uses a Peltzer (husband inventor) coffee machine, juicer, egg cracker, and mixer.

Under Siege, Steven Segal makes a bomb in the microwave.

I was going to mention Freaky Friday also.

There is a movie with Bob Hope (and I think Lana Turner) where he is writing about the suburbs and moves to a house there. He loads a combo and ends up with a flooded mess that the housewife next door has to help clean up and instruct him how to use the machine. The movie takes place in a brand new development so you get to see everybodys new mid century houses with a lot of the action taking place in kitchens ( if your into mid century modern design).

The movie with Bob Hope and Lana Turner is "Bachelor in Paradise" from MGM in 1961. Haven't seen it in a long time, but it's a funny movie.

I think I remember that he put the detergent in the lint trap of the O'Keefe & Merritt combo, the one that did not spin.

The Morning After with Jane Fonda. She is cleaning up a crime scene and throws everything in a 1980s Whirlpool Power Clean Dishwasher.

I don't know if this was brought up. in the opening Joanne Woodward is with the repair man with a Westinghouse slant front with the front panels off. also looks like a Servel gas refrigerator. also a great version of a MCM home. the movie can be found on classic reel

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

Came across this while channel surfing. Ellen Burstyn and Kris Kristofferson are sitting in the kitchen and behind them is a Hotpoint 30" drop in range.

Watching an episode of Ghost the other night and Hetty the ghost lady of the house is sitting on top of a center dial Maytag with a snubber I guess was broken, enjoying the vibrations of the machine during the spin cycle.
