Thanks so much to Patrick down in Portland for storing this old Westinghouse dryer for me. It was picked up the same time as the Whirlpool. It was a pleasure meeting Patrick and checking out his collections. Neat Frigidaires!

I am hoping this dryer might be a good spare parts one for the later era one I have but looking at it I don't know how compatable they are...

I promise not to post pictures of every wash

But this is the first one in the fixed up Laundromat. I have run a few tests and loads and it seems to work fine, no leaks. Sure is a fun machine.

Hey, don't stand too close to that thing, the radiation

But that's why they put a window in the door! The kids get a real kick out of the front-loaders. Probably the same as kids in the 50s did.

My other kids checking out the Westys

I wonder if the novelty will wear off when we actually ask them to DO some wash.

Leak

There was a pretty bad rust leak here in the bottom of the outer tub - lotsa water. Rather than deal with putty I drilled out a clean 1/2 inch hole.

Plug

I put this 1/2 inch plug in, but I was able to get some BJ weld both inside and out to help keep the outer tub sound. That duct tape it only to keep an unused clamp from rattling.

I also want to thank Eddy in Conn., Chris is St. Louis, and Greg - Gansky for their help with the machine. You can see the (ugly) boot repair in the above picture. It is holding and I hope it will hold for awhile. It is a inner-tube repair patch, covered with a super-elastic sealant. I was also able to reach to the inner side of the boot and put some sealant there too.

Family picture

Here is the dowdy parts dryer with it's glamorous cousin.

They are actually quite different and the parts dryer has some real interesting dials on the front. Really don't know if I will be able to use any of it, but they don't come around too often so I though I would save it from the Krusher. Thanks for looking.

You sure work fast. The pictures of the washer running and your kids watching is priceless. Be careful or you just might end up raising a group of classic appliance addicts!

It was a pleasure to meet you today and have wondeful conversation. You are a very nice guy. Best of luck with figuring out that dryer. Maybe somebody here has a lead on a matching washer to it. You never know.

Patrick

Excellent work, Brian - what a great thing it is to hear that machine running with clothes sloshing around through the window, isn't it?

What are the extra three dials on the D-3 dryer for?

Dials

Hi Greg, Yeah the dials maybe were added later by the owner? The red one I think is a temperature and might be original and the other two are definitly both timers. Don't know how this works.

Brian, It looks like you did a great job on the Westy's. I too am wondering if you had to do anything to the boot. Thanks for sharing.

What great pictures Brian thank you! I like your plug repair, it looks like it will hold up well.

The Westinghouse Slant-Front Laundromat Set has to be the most quintessential 1950's pair.
