Hi Dan, I though by the time the 208 came around the lower part of the console was gold ?

John, it's tough to say, but given the washer's overall cosmetic condition, I think maybe the gold paint has worn off.  There appear to be traces of it around the dial bezel and under the top trim piece, unless that's some weird staining of some kind.

 

At least that's how the image renders on my laptop.  I wonder what that crusty residue in the FS cup is from.

The gold paint is just very worn, which takes a good amount of effort since it holds up much better than the pre '75 color (silver-ish blue? I'm color blind with certain shades). The spun aluminum timer dial is also a dead giveaway.
