Just wanted to let everyone know that on May 20, 2001 at 4:44pm central time this website officially went live, it's our 20th anniversary today! Hard to believe its been 20 years! The site's original name was Classic Appliances, but I changed the name to automaticwasher and reworked the forum in 2004.
Originally we were on a Yahoo! club since 1999, but in 2001 the office I was working in started blocking access to Yahoo clubs at work and I was pissed, so I showed them by creating our own stand alone website (which they never blocked lol). That was initially the impetus for creating this website! |

This is a real accomplishment on your part keeping this website and group together for 20 years! I’m still a relative newcomer, my 7th anniversary as a member of AW.org will be next month on the 16th, although I had been following the site for almost 4 years before I joined.
You really do a tremendous job and I appreciate your efforts very much

Happy anniversary. It's been almost 9 years since I signed up already, and I think I've been lurking for 12 years now. One of the best sites around to use. More modern websites have alot of functionality issues that yours doesn't. |

Happy anniversary to AW.org and thanks to everyone for all the fun and drama and kind words!
Have been a member for over 15 years and I wouldn`t want to miss a single day of it. There is only one thing I miss a bit from the old days. At the beginning there wasn`t a lot of Facebook yet and much more personal stuff was shared here on AW which made me feel like being a part of the family even though I`ve never met anyone. Nowadays a lot of activity seems to have moved to Facebook. Anyway looking forward to the next 20 years! |

Happy Anniversary ( a little late)
It's neat to hear more of the history and see the archived pages. I haven't been here since the early days, but coincidentally landed on the site after Googling when I saw you on TLC in 2012 and it ignited an interest, that became a passion for vintage appliances.
Congratulations, and Thank You.. on both counts!

Happy anniversary!! (A little late) It seems yesterday to see a 12-13 years old me in front of a Microsoft 98 at dad's shop office or city library waiting for washer pictures and posts to download (it took like 10 mins for a thread) print and collect them in books I made to drool over at home! I later discovered floppy discs so could watch them at home where I didn't have internet! I still have those books and can't do nothing but smile while I happen to look at them. I vividly remember canlling my dad or whoever I knew and say "look see it is not just me?". And remember him not caring much and tell me to shut internet off "When phone bill comes you gonna pay for it?". Wishing my mother was still be with me to let her see too! I used to read the site regularly but did not become a member until many years later as I decided to partecipate. And got my own computer. By then I was 20 years old myself. I’m new in these parts but it has been wonderful starting to get to know you guys and learning more everyday. I was only 11 years old when this site started so I’m still a bit green when it comes to all the knowledge there is to learn here, but I’ve had a fascination with vintage stuff in particular since I was a young kid going garbage picking with my younger brother and finding cool stuff that we couldn’t understand why anyone would throw away. We definitely drove our parents crazy with the stuff we’d bring home. All these years later I still have the same excitement when I find something cool to diagnose and get running again. It’s awesome to be a part of this fantastic community. Thank you! Cheers to the next 20 years!

Originally I was a member of the old forum under the name Spambdamn... looks like I changed it to Sudsmaster in 2004, around the time the site was revamped. I vaguely remember posting here as Spambdamn around 1997 or later. I think I changed the name to Sudsmaster after I acquired my first front loader, a Neptune 7500, which I still have and use regularly, albeit with some repairs over the years.
And it goes without saying that we all owe Robert a huge thanks for setting up and maintaining this wonderful website. |

I love this site, and appreciate all the time and effort, you have put into it, to make it what it is today. I started a Bear Club, here in Sacramento 28 years ago, and know the time, and effort it takes, to make it successful. My hats off to you Sir, and know you are loved and appreciated at least by this old Bear!
Hugs, David |
