I need to source a new heater for my garage dw. Its a kdp-57(a?) I know the built in version is kds-17a because of the energy saver button. I'm running a load of bowls through it right now otherwise I'd take a pic of the tag.
Anyways, if I run it more than a cycle or two and run the saniwash, when it gets to the wash portion to hold the timer until the wash temp meets the limit, sometimes it'll trip the gfi outlet. I have it on a dedicated circuit in my garage with the battery backup for my fiber connection so i can be upstairs and know that it trips because of the power fault alarm on the battery backup. I haven't had any luck finding the heater with our suppliers because they don't even list the models anymore. Tbh, I'm honestly thinking of pulling the element, plugging the holes and using enough magnetic heaters stuck to the tub that would equal the rated draw of the element and writing them in series like the og heater... I eventually plan on replacing the timer on this dw with an arduino device if i can ever get through my electrical theory classes.. Anyways, as it sits, I use the dw on a saniwash cycle till the gfi pops then I switch to a full cycle and let it finish. My grill grates and platers come out perfectly clean that way. |

I replaced the cord winder with a cord rated for 20 amps, I'm currently using an extension cord rated for 20 amps, it's 12 awg but the gfi trips being plugged in direct or through the extension.
It also doesn't trip if I've just ran it once or twice not right after each other and that's it. It trips when I try to do a few loads in succession. It doesn't trip when the blower and heater are running, it'll only trip on the temp hold while washing with the pump on or the temp hold while it's paused during the rinse. |
