I always wondered who made some of the private-label brands back in the 50s and 60s. I know Norge did a lot of Wards Signature models, and I think Whirlpool did the Kenmores, but who made Western Auto Wizard machines? And the Coronado machines sold by Gambles? Others?

Wizard

Wizard machines are made by Franklin.

Frigidaire and Admiral made some of the Wards 'fridges. I've got a Coronado 'fridge, from the 60's,that's definately Admiral.

Had a Norge built dryer a few years ago, with the ACE(hardware) name on it.

GE made most,if not all the appliances for Penny's.

Who made who

I know Kenmore has always been made by Whirlpool, but was there ever a brief period that their toploaders were made by WCI? I thought i read a post about that.Any Kenmore experts know?

Pat

Pat,

All WCI ever made for Sears was a scant few models of the PRE- FridGEMores front loading washer and stackable dryer..and possibly a washer dryer all in one unit...i.e the two could not be seperated.

Other than that it wasn't until Brand Central came on in the late 1980's, that other manufacturers machines began to be offered.

To MY knowledge anyway...

Chad

Kenmore Toploaders

Thanks Chad. The stack units were the only wci machines i ever saw with the Kenmore name.I believe the Whirlpool/Sears relationship is close to the century mark.
My thanks to WP/KM for all the great laundry products they have given us over the years.Keep the fires burning guys!
