That fridge is not a Coldspot

Sears originally retired the Coldspot name for the Kenmore starting with the 1977 models. Then about 15 or 20 year Sears started putting the Coldspot back on the model # tags inside Whirlpool made only modern fridges.  I whave always wondered why they did that. PATRICK COFFEY

Patrick, the reason Sears used the Coldspot name on the model info tag at a later date was to retain ownership of that trademark. A trademark will expire if it is not used after a certain number of years.

They must have forgotten to take the designation off of the model tag on this ‘77 model.

That was the first refrigerator I put a new compressor in! Even the same color!

Did these have a rotary compressor?

I have a 1978 Sears-Kenmore refrigerator. The badge at the top right of the door says "Kenmore," but the badge behind the kickplate that states the freon charge says "Coldspot" on it. There must have been a transition period before they ran out of old badges or made a new model. The same as a Coldspot from the year before, but this year they decided to put a Kenmore badge on the front.
