Those don't look a day over five years old.  I know a couple of these F&P units that aren't nearly as nicely kept, and only 5-6 years old.  Even with softened water, the insides are white and crusty.

Do you do any cleaning/descaling now and then?

Hi Glenn yes that’s great service how many loads would you estimate that each drawer does per week?

That’s always the important question when you’re talking about longevity is how much you have actually had, I’ve always said that these were neat machines they just didn’t hold up with the general public very well it shows what good Care can do for a products lifespan

My two 1987 whirlpool dishwashers are still working great basically one of them is run every other day with a huge filthy load of dishes and pots and pans etc.

I’m sure if I’d had only one whirlpool dishwasher it would not have lasted this long.

John

John, cycle count is 1,114 upper drawer, 618 lower.  Average 1.85 runs per week.  A one-person household obviously doesn't entail a heavy usage pattern.

Major repairs thus far are the upper drawer link support broke (common on the older style, replaced with the upgrade kit) and the drain hoses cracked.  The backlight on the upper LCD went bad which doesn't make it unusable but I did replace it.  The upper rinse aid dispenser is seeping so that's next.

A need for descaling is rare.  I've been using Cascade Institutional/Boil Out for 10+ years.  An enzyme product (WM or Cascade Complete powder) with STPP added on some loads.

Hi Glenn! Congrats on the longevity of your dish drawers. I hope my previous comment was taken as a comical jab. I don’t do much online and forget that my dry sense of humor can’t be conveyed through a keyboard.

Impressive feat.

It's amazing how long things last with gentle handling and proper use. I've gotten several times the lifespan out of equipment that's known and documented for its unreliability.

I really like and think that the F&P dish drawers are a really clever design and they work fairly well.

As I’ve mentioned before I got a single drawer unit that I’m going to put in our break room at our business because I thought it would be a cool machine for that purpose.

Glenn shows it with good care and a few repairs you can get good service out of products that even had a poor reliability record in the general world.

I figure my two 34 year old whirlpool dishwashers Have done over 5000 loads each the left one probably a few more the right one may be a few less.

In that time I had to replace the pump and motor assembly on one of them the inlet valves on both of them and a couple of lower racks and maybe an upper rack because of rust, the machine on the right has a glitch in the timer but it’s so slight I haven’t even bothered to replace the timer yet it still works fine.

I have noticed that both drawers use quite a lot of salt but considering Sunday after a full roast lunch and other meal prep both units ran 3x ok so they use more a little more detergent but as they only do 3 fills of water its not much of an issue, I am happy to use extra detergent as everything comes out perfectly clean and they dry plastic better than any dishwasher I have every had.

Have a single unit that is in a terrible state its white inside and limescale has coated all the seal but I will clean it off also have a double drawer unit as back up as well as a pair of drawers for spares..... Should be good for a few years !!
