I was browsing YouTube and ran across a video of a Samsung washer with a recirculation spray running on Eco40-60.

So I thought that's unusual.

So then by some quick googling I found out:
They launched 18kg washers and dryers in select EU countries.

The washer is the WF18T8000GW. I found it in French and Spanish labeling.

www.samsung.com/fr/washer...

1100rpm spin, C-rating for energy, actually reaches 60C on Cotton's.
Cycle times are surprisingly reasonable at 3h for a full 18kg load.
It uses over 4kWh for that load, so 2h of heating and probably not much in terms of temp hold.

The dryer is even weirder.

It's rated at 18kg with a drum just above 200l - so realistically more like 10kg.

www.samsung.com/fr/washer...

It is A+++, supposedly a hybrid dryer?
B condensation Rating.
Full load takes close to 5:40h.
So not even that slow per kg.
Half load - still 9kg - in 3h: actually pretty decent for an A+++ dryer!

So finally a real successor to the Whirlpool Duet clones over here.

And finally a "useable" large format dryer!
The dryer alone might be worth dealing with French controls.

My best guess these are once again based on Samsung's most current US designs.
Probably a 7.1cuft dryer and a 4.x washer.

But the dryer has to be some kind of weird Frankenstein thing.
The labeling for the refrigerant suggests some HUGE heat pump, but cycle times don't.
So have they just taken the regular A+++ heat pump base and slapped it into a huge cabinet?

But why only in certain EU countries?

Changing the stickers on the facia really isn't much of a hazzle, right?
They are all EU regulation compliant and have to be CE approved, so they can be sold anywhere in the EU.

Why not here in Germany?

The channel on YT I found them in was Öko LAV864, they have a whole bunch of videos on there if you want to check them out.

Some googling more

The washer is 5cuft, about 140l.
Retails in France for about 1200€

On the dryer I made a slight mistake.
It is rated at 16kg.
So 8kg in 3h.
Still pretty decent!

The dryer can pull up to 2kW, so definitely a hybrid dryer (both heat pump and a heater).
Given that the cotton's cycle uses an average of below 500Wh while the synthetic cycle uses uses an average of about 800Wh, the heater appears to be used dynamically in all cycles and the heat pump might just be a small 400W unit similar to those in Samsung's normal sized A+++ dryers.

It's probably a 7.4cuft base machine.

There's an eBay seller who's been selling these for a few years now:

IIRC comments were made at time huge front loaders like the Duet weren't big sellers across Europe. Not many homes have or had the space for such uber sized washing machines. In places were washers and dryers are fitted into kitchens or other tight spaces large washing machine likely would pose problems.

Think the conversation came up also as to why Miele didn't really market those huge 4XXX series washers and matching dryers all over Europe.

I really hope they will never arrive here. We are certainly not short of rubbish!

I've noticed that Costco here in UK are selling the Samsung 18kg washers and 16kg dryers, would definitely consider them if buying a new home

I am aware these aren't huge sellers.
And that the semi-commercial machines were around before.

But these are just straight up home machines, nothing about them.

My main interest is the dryer.
Having an efficient large volume dryer is awesome!

Not gonna get one here in the flat, but if it sticks around some years might be interesting...

That Samsung 18kg washing machine seems to be hot and cold fill.

I still wouldn't have one. Samsung aren't renowned for washing machine quality.

Why not in Germany?

I don't know why, but I noted that also LG and Hoover (Candy / Haier) do not sell their high-capacity washers in Germany, while they sell them in France

LG does sell 2 versions of their US derivatives over here - a 15kg version without steam and a 17kg version with steam.

Hoover only sells their 80l 13kg rated version here.

Hoover seems to sell three 14kg machines in Britain, no 13kg models, and four 12kg washers.
