Hello
I am thinking of buying a vintage set of Hoovers. My dilema is about shipping companies. I put a quote into Shiply and have gotten several responses. Do I have any recourse if something goes wrong? Has anyone used SHIPLY? Thanks everyone.

Gordon Giffin is in Vermont. I can send his phone number if you’re interested.

Have only ever used U-ship, Craters and Freighters, and one horrible place whose shall remain nameless.

U-Ship runs a "tight ship" so to speak. After accepting shipper's bid you pay U-ship who then gives a code. Once shipment arrives and all is good you either give shipper the code, or go online to your account to release payment. Much like eBay U-Ship has a feedback system for shippers. This allows you to get an idea of who is bad or good.

C&F is great but expensive. They either ship things on their own trucks, or collect, expertly crate then ship items via a common carrier like UPS.

My Hoover TT was crated and shipped by seller via UPS and it arrived in perfect condition.

With U-Ship it helps to be flexible, that is not needing something picked up *now*.

Find on average first bids to come in on U-Ship are always highest, then come more reasonable numbers from other shippers.

But OTOH you have to read details of bids carefully. Often you have shippers who are passing through or near enough to area where item(s) are located and have room to pick-up before heading in your direction. If you miss this window (assuming bid was reasonable), then that shipper likely has moved on...

Another thing about U-Ship is you must read all details carefully of how things work.

For example what happens after you accept a shipper's bid, pay money then it turns out item(s) cannot be collected for whatever reason. IIRC in those sort of situations part of money is refunded and balance kept as credit towards future U-Ship orders. This seems fair IMHO because what likely happens is shipper gets something for his time and effort.

Also with U-Ship you must be clear about size, weight, and measurements of item(s). This and how you want things transported (upright only, blanket wrapped, white glove treatment, etc...). You must also be clear about how much assistance will be available both at collection and delivery point.

Since we're talking about major appliances here am saying if a washer, dryer or whatever is in a basement accessible by stairs only, and seller isn't going to lift a finger to help get things out of said basement and onto truck or van you need to put that in bid.

Ive been trying to get the rear half of an old Toyota Tacoma frame shipped from western NC to CT the past month with no luck. Tried U-Ship and didnt get one response. Went on Shipley and within 6 hours I had 8 of them. Ranging in price from $585.00 to $850.00. I took the cheapest and its coming end of next week.

Each and every time the items have arrived in perfect shape and been collected and delivered within a week to 10 days as L says it pays not to want it NOW as they drop the cost when others have things to send from same area same with delivery my last Servis TT was the last item on the truck as the driver was from same area and just brought it home with him.

Maybe an option?

I know several people who have successfully used this option.
